Jujutsu Kaisen: 7 Heroic Things Choso Did

Choso is one of the most unique characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, and the incredible character journey he goes on is a major reason why many fans love him. In a world defined by the conflict between humans with cursed energy and cursed spirits, Choso finds himself in between. Born from a cursed womb and sharing attributes with both humans and curses, Choso goes through an identity crisis as he strives to find a place for himself in the world.

He begins his path as an antagonist and a villain, but goes through a redemption arc and earns his place among the heroes. As with many classic redemption arcs, his atonement and change of heart are symbolized by multiple actions that Choso takes throughout the story, through which he grows more heroic and define his new self.

7 Vowed To Avenge His Brothers

Demonstrated His Loyalty To Family

While Choso began as an antagonist, he always had redeeming qualities, unlike ruthless villains like Mahito and Sukuna. For Choso, it was his love for his brothers, Eso and Kechizu. The three of them were born from a cursed womb and shared a close bond, each ready to fight for the others. This is demonstrated at the end of the Death Painting arc.

Choso feels incredibly hurt over the death of his brothers and dedicates himself to avenging them. Yuji and Nobara did not kill Chosos’s brothers out of malice, but rather to protect innocent people. Despite this, Choso’s pain at their loss shows a relatable and human side to his character, as well as bravery and loyalty as his positive traits.

Defended Yuji

However, Choso’s quest for vengeance led to unexpected results. He clashed with Yuji Itadori during the Shibuya Incident, but he couldn’t kill him due to a reawakened sense of distress and the loss of a relative, the same sensation Choso felt when his two brothers died. This led to Choso collapsing in one of the buildings as he was confused by his dreams and what happened to him.

When Choso awakened, he realized that Yuji was also his brother. When Yuji was fighting with fake Geto, Choso re-emerged and stood on Yuji’s side, and by extension the Jujutsu sorcerers’ side, in the battle against the master of curses. While the group couldn’t stop the villain’s scheme, Choso’s help was invaluable in the battle.

  • Manga Chapter: 140

Even after the Shibuya crisis was over, Choso remained by Yuji’s side. Now that he had broken his allegiance with fake Geto, he was lost and trying to find his place in his new world. He began to form a bond with Yuji and swore loyalty to him as his last surviving brother. Choso always acted protectively and kindly towards him, seeing his former enemy as one of his closest allies.

This especially showed during the attempt at Yuji’s extermination. When Yuji was attacked by Naoya, it was Choso who unquestionably defended him. This led to Choso fighting against Nayoa Zenin, a formidable sorcerer prodigy of his clan. This selfless heroism would come to define Choso in the future.

Took A Great Burden

  • Manga Chapter: 207

Choso’s main task wasn’t always on the battlefield. After joining the main heroes after the Itadori Extermination arc, Choso ended up on the defensive. Once Kenjaku’s culling games began, it was discerned that his primary goal was his old friend, a sorcerer named Tengen. Choso was among the group that listened to her story.

He learned a lot about Kenjaku and decided to participate in the battle against him. Choso stayed to defend Tengen. While this may not seem as heroic as charging into the heat of battle at first, his mission was crucial in saving Japan and possibly the rest of humanity from the cataclysm that Kenjaku sought to unveil upon them.

3 Defended Tengen Against Kenjaku

Fought To Save the World

  • Manga Chapter: 207

Eventually, Choso’s choice to stay behind paid off. Kenjaku came for Tengen personally, and it fell to Choso and Yuki to defend her. Choso fought bravely against Kenjaku, one of the most powerful sorcerers in existence, and managed to hold his own. However, this battle was more than just a test of sorcery for Choso, as the newfound revelations altered his perspective on Kenjaku.

During their first encounter, Choso knew little about Kenjaku or what he wanted. However, he realized that the body-hopping sorcerer was his father, and that Choso himself was created as an experiment. Choso is disgusted by Kenjaku’s disregard for life, and that his main driving force in this conflict is simple curiosity.

2 Accepted His Life As A Human

Finished His Journey Of Self-Discovery

  • Manga Chapter: 208

Not all acts of heroism have to manifest in battles and clashes. Some of them are reflected within. Choso’s outlook has changed a lot over the course of his story, especially after his battle with Kenjaku and the realization of his nature. He had to grasp that he is a unique being and would be considered an abomination by many, as well as reflect upon his past crimes.

Despite all of this, Choso still found the strength to move forward, and resolved to continue living for the sake of his newfound family. He began as Kenjaku’s pawn, working side by side with ruthless curses like Mahito and Jogo, but gradually evolved into his own person. This choice symbolizes Choso’s decision to be human rather than a curse.

1 Battled Against Sukuna

Heroically sacrificed himself

  • Manga Chapter: 259

Choso’s existence ended abruptly in the recent arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, and his final acts were fitting for his short and tragic life. He was among the sorcerers who challenged Ryomen Sukuna after he killed Satoru Gojo. Choso, like any other challenger, had to fight against insurmountable odds. Sukuna was vastly more powerful than any of them, but he managed to resist for a time.

Choso received a near-fatal wound soon after starting his battle with Sukuna, and it took a great toll on him. Nevertheless, Choso continued to fight even after his wound and managed to distract Sukuna for a while, allowing the others to regroup. His final sacrifice was made in the battle as Sukuna’s flames incinerated him, making his final moments those of sacrifice for his friends.
