Warning: The following contains spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen anime and manga. The Shibuya arc of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series has come with many unexpected developments. Whether it be the sealing of Satoru Gojo, the strongest sorcerer in modern society, or the release of Sukuna, each episode has been action-packed with twists and turns around every corner.

Right from the debut of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series, the special grade cursed spirits Hanami, Jogo, Mahito, and Dagon have been portrayed. However, in the Shibuya arc of the series, these cursed spirits have taken center stage, and while they’ve caused a lot of destruction in Shibuya with their immense strength, the sorcerers of modern society are fighting back to eradicate them all.

4 Hanami

Mother Nature

This cursed spirit took center stage during the Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc. During the arc, Hanami invaded Jujutsu High and left most students on the verge of death. Like its fellow cursed spirits, Hanami was incredibly powerful and possessed the cursed technique Disaster Plants. As a cursed spirit born from nature, Hanami sought to erase the world of humans, as humans had largely contributed to the mistreatment of nature. Believing cursed spirits to be real humans, Hanami joined with Jogo, Mahito, and Dagon, but still had a peaceful disposition compared to the rest of them. While Hanami wanted to exterminate mankind for mistreating nature, they still weren’t like Mahito, who killed for the fun of it. With the technique Disaster Plants, Hanami possessed an extremely durable body with hyper-regeneration and could easily hide its presence, deceiving other sorcerers by catching them off guard.

Fortunately for jujutsu sorcerers, despite Hanami’s battle prowess the cursed spirit still met an eventual end at the hands of Gojo in Shibuya. After escaping from the strongest sorcerer in modern times twice, Gojo declared that he would take out Hanami first, and he did so. Although Hanami never showcased its domain expansion, it possessed one and attempted to use it during the Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc.

3 Dagon

The Docile Creature

Of the four major cursed spirits portrayed in the Shibuya arc, Dagon had the least screen time in the series. Unlike his counterparts, Dagon was first portrayed as a cursed womb and only fully evolved into a cursed spirit during the Shibuya arc, after the death of Hanami. Before evolving, Dagon could have been called a docile creature. While he also killed humans by devouring them, his actions were incomparable to those of cursed spirits such as Mahito and Jogo.

After Hanami’s death, Dagon fully evolved into a cursed spirit and, shortly after, overwhelmed two first-grade jujutsu sorcerers. Despite Naobito, the then-head of the Zenin clan, being able to momentarily handle Dagon, the sorcerer was quickly outclassed after Dagon unleashed his domain. With the sure-hit skill of his domain, Dagon had Nanami, Naobito, and Maki on their last legs, until the appearance of Megumi and Toji Fushiguro. While Dagon was powerful, he was no match for Toji, who once drove Gojo into a corner, and with Megumi activating his domain inside Dagon’s, the sure-hit skill of his domain was nullified, and he eventually lost to Toji. As a cursed spirit who displayed such prowess shortly after evolving from a cursed womb, if Dagon had more time, his strength and intelligence might’ve evolved to reach the heights of cursed spirits like Jogo and Mahito.

2 Jogo

Heat Personified

Jogo is the only one of the main cursed spirits that faced both Gojo and Sukuna, two men said to be the strongest. He debuted in episode five of season one of the series and then fought Satoru Gojo, the strongest sorcerer of modern times. Jogo, however, was not well-known as the powerful cursed spirit he was because of how Gojo had overpowered him. However, after displaying his prowess in his battle against Sukuna, many understood just what made Jogo a special-grade cursed spirit.

Of the members of his group, Jogo wanted curses to become like humans in that they rule the world. To him, it didn’t even matter whether he was alive or not during the Reign of Curses, as long as the Reign of Curses came to fruition. Jogo’s cursed technique, Disaster Flames, made him a master of fire. To burn ordinary humans, he didn’t even need to lift a finger and could simply activate his technique on them. Even on Jujutsu sorcerers, Jogo’s flames were powerful, as he burned Nanami, Naobito, and Maki alive. However, in terms of firepower, the cursed spirit still lost out to Sukuna, who ironically killed him with fire. However, even Sukuna admitted that Jogo was one of the stronger beings he faced.

1 Mahito

Soul Manipulator

Of the cursed spirits in his group, Mahito undoubtedly had the fastest evolution. Unlike his partners, Mahito wasn’t born from the fear of a natural disaster, and he didn’t believe in sacrificing himself like Jogo or resisting his carnal nature like Hanami. Mahito fully embodied the true nature of what a curse is and believed humans should be eradicated. Mahito was born from the negative emotions that humans have towards each other and embodied a sadistic and immature personality. Because of his origin, he was very adept at manipulating humans and used them as tools that he played with when bored. Mahito believed in doing what he wanted without restraining himself.

After facing Kento Nanami and Itadori Yuuji during the Vs. Mahito arc, Mahito reappeared in Shibuya, where he dealt the killing blow to Nanami right in the presence of Itadori. Throughout the series, Mahito’s abilities constantly evolved, and he became more and more fearsome. Because of their opposing ideals, Mahito and Itadori developed an enmity in which they swore to destroy each other. However, despite almost killing Yuuji, Mahito was unsuccessful, and with Aoi Todo’s inclusion in his and Yuuji’s battle, Mahito was cornered until he was finally absorbed by Kenjaku.
