Warning: The following contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen 241, “Foolish Survivor -Win And Remain-” by Gege Akutami, translated by John Werry, and Lettered by Snir Aharon, available in English from MangaPlus.

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 241 was one of the weaker ones in the story and certainly not as exciting as fans would have liked for it to be. This chapter focused on Takaba and his past before the fight with Kenjaku continued even further.

Unfortunately for the fans, the fight was not seen in this chapter at all. The vast majority of it focused on the bizarre life that Takaba had led up until this point in the story. While the chapter did garner some sympathy for the character of Takaba, it just went on to show once again that this character isn’t nearly as interesting and that this fight needs to be wrapped up quicker so more focus could be thrown on Sukuna and his own fight.

Takaba’s Past

JJK chapter 241 focused heavily on Takaba and his past. Fans got to see him practice his jokes with his friend and it is clear that his mate isn’t taking this seriously. While Takaba spends time preparing for various competitions and putting in hours to make sure that the duo succeeds, his friend doesn’t seem to care all that much. He spends his entire nights drinking and hanging out with different men and women and, the next day, he arrives late, stinking of booze, and not really caring all that much about all the effort that Takaba seems to be putting in. This, naturally, upset Takaba quite a lot. He doesn’t want a partner who doesn’t care about comedy as much as he does.

To Takaba, comedy is something very serious and while that might be a bizarre statement, it is something Takaba really believes. Comedy is for people to laugh, but to Takaba, it is something much more. According to him, it is the only way that he can connect with people. Takaba has always been a very strange individual. Ever since he was a kid, he could not bring himself to connect with other people. He appeared to be quiet all the time and didn’t really spend time with his other friends. Before he realized it, he was left with no friends to connect with and no partner in life. This is when Takaba realized that he needed people around him and he wasn’t doing enough for that.

Takaba also realized that making jokes seemed to attract people to him and gather around him. According to him, this would then become one way for him to gain more friends. So, comedy becomes Takaba’s primary strategy for succeeding in life by building relationships and combating his own loneliness. Essentially, Takaba is just a lonely fellow who wants more friends around him and, to forge better relationships, he turns to comedy. This is the exact reason why Takaba thinks comedy is as serious as it is. To other people, it might just be jokes and laughs, however, to Takaba, it is much more. It is something that defines every single relationship that he has had and his entire future rests on it.

Takaba Accepts His Inner Self

Fans also get to see more of Takaba and his past in JJK chapter 241. This happens when Takaba sees the kid version of him in some sort of a recollection. This child version of himself makes him realize that what he said earlier to Kenjaku wasn’t right at all. As fans would remember, Takaba mentioned that he does not care if Kenjaku laughs at his jokes or not. As long as other people laugh and find him funny, he is more than satisfied. However, this statement is contradictory. Takaba does not actually believe this to be true. When he became a comedian, he knew that he wanted to make every single person laugh around him. That is precisely why Takaba was now face-to-face with his inner self.

The child version of Takaba reminded him once again why he became a comedian in the first place and got him to make amends for this. Fans then got to see a bit of the fight between Takaba and Kenjaku. While JJK chapter 241 featured no combat between these two individuals, it did see Takaba bring out his very best. Immediately in the middle of the fight, Takaba bowed down before Kenjaku. He did this because he realized that he was just lying to himself. Because of that, he decided to apologize to Kenjaku and bowed down before him.

While this might be stupid to do in the middle of battle, it does somewhat surprise Kenjaku. In fact, he starts to appreciate his form while doing this. The posture, according to him, is perfect and just a few moments later, he realizes that he’s being enchanted by this particular individual. Essentially, this is the author’s way to show that Kenjaku is now deeply invested in this character, although he initially believed that only Higuruma was worthy from those who received new curse techniques.

Takaba Takes A Stand

As soon as Takaba finishes with his apology in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 241, he vows to take this seriously and make sure that he gets Kenjaku to laugh until his guts spill out. Essentially, that is his way of fighting and that is how he wants to take on this enemy. Now, Takaba is ready to strike back and his confidence has returned. With that, his Cursed Technique returns as well and this is also evident when one looks at Kenjaku in the last panel of the chapter. The writing “excited” can be seen on his face and this means Takaba’s technique has returned to him.

From here onwards, the fighting is going to be extremely intense and, at the same time, somewhat unconventional and wacky as well. Takaba’s fights cannot be predicted by anyone and all fans can bet on is to see bizarre things and more funny faces going forward. This fight will likely still end with Kenjaku’s victory, however, Takaba will do more than enough to impress the fans and show them why he is a first-rate sorcerer himself. This fight has surely been somewhat dull when compared to the ones that fans witnessed shortly before it, but it has its own charm and fans can only hope that it picks up from here onwards.

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait to see this fight continue. Some readers might know that after every few weeks, the author decides to take a break. This means JJK will not return next week and the next chapter is going to hit in 2 weeks’ time. There’s a good chance that this fight between Kenjaku and Takaba will wrap up in chapter 242 of JJK and fans only have to wait a bit longer before it wraps up and more focus is thrown on Sukuna. As for who will end up winning this battle and how, only time can tell. For now, Jujutsu Kaisen looks set to continue the fight between these two amazing yet unique fighters.
