While some people have been burnt out from the constant releases featuring superheroes, many were surprised by the fresh take on familiar concepts that are found in Invincible. The 2021 series is based on the comic of the same name, telling the story of the young hero Mark Grayson and his struggles with both his normal human life and his responsibility in a much larger conflict. Presented without pulling any punches, the series is brutal, occasionally making it hard for the average viewer to stomach.
One provider of all the gruesome violence is a character that some fans just can’t get enough of, Invincible’s Battle Beast, also known as Thokk. This fantastically fearsome character came out of nowhere and made a serious impact before heading out to continue doing what he does best. Thanks to all the chaos he’s able to create in a short time, some may be wondering exactly how strong Battle Beast is and just how big of a threat he can pose.

When faced with the potential for a team of superheroes to bust down the door any minute, one is left with few options. To keep himself safe from Invincible, the notorious crime boss Machine Head enlists the help of a series of villains, most notably Battle Beast. This formidable foe doesn’t actually seem interested in helping out Machine Head, though. Instead, it seems like Battle Beast is after nothing more than a good fight. Unfortunately for Invincible and the powerful Guardians of the Globe, they were unable to pose the kind of fight that Battle Beast was expecting.
Battle Beast explores the galaxy, looking for someone or something capable of challenging him in combat. Due to his immense strength, it’s quite rare for anyone to be able to put a scratch on the mighty warrior. He genuinely has no other care except for finding the greatest anime-style fight possible, wherever that fight may be. He’s a brutal opponent who will brutalize his foe, but that is because he’s expecting them to do the same to him if they are capable. While he has no qualms with killing anyone he comes across, Battle Beast does demonstrate at least some kind of code. He makes it clear that he isn’t interested in ending the lives of those he deems too weak. That isn’t always the case, as initially, he is quite interested in killing Invincible:
I was promised this world offered worthy opponents! But, oh, how you disappoint. Killing you is an act of mercy.
A glance at Battle Beast makes it clear that he is some kind of lion-humanoid alien, though most of his enemies will be more interested in avoiding his powerful mace than gawking at his appearance. Covered in white fur and what appears to be minimal armor, Battle Beast looks as if he is always ready for combat. He manages to stand out from a sea of characters that already have unique, intriguing designs. Battle Beast has a significant role to play, especially if a live-action Invincible ends up happening.
How Strong Is Battle Beast?
Battle Beast’s Abilities
- Superhuman Strength
- Superhuman Speed
- Superhuman Durability
- Superhuman Senses
- Claws and Fangs
- Mastery of Combat
With his dominant display in Invincible Season 1, Episode 5, “That Actually Hurt,” it’s easy to say that Battle Beast is one of the strongest beings in the galaxy. Not only does he handle Invincible with ease, but he continues on to decimate the entirety of the human-feeling Guardians of the Globe. While he does have some level of assistance for some of the fight, it’s still clear that none of the heroes stood a chance against Battle Beast, even if they were all united in a fight. His lust for battle combined with his immense strength put him leagues above any of the heroes during their confrontation. He even doubles down on that fact when he says:
This battle is beneath me. There’s no honor in killing insects!
Realistically, Battle Beast is capable of going toe-to-toe with the Viltrumite empire, making him one of the most physically capable characters in the Invincible series. He has no issue stomping Invincible in their fight. As is suggested by his battle in the comics against the true villain of the series, Thragg, Battle Beast would likely hand Omni-Man a massive defeat as well. He is capable of stopping just about every member of the Guardians of the Globe in a single blow, nearly killing multiple members in the fight.
It’s hard to say whether any other hero could have survived the direct mace strike that Invincible takes from Battle Beast. He’s just too strong, too fast, and too skilled to be defeated by any average or even any elite enemy. It takes someone truly special to stand against Battle Beast.

While Battle Beast is set up as a serious threat in the series, he is an entirely different titan in the comics. Originally content to protect his home planet, Battle Beast eventually grew bored and set out searching for thrilling battles. Following his battle with Invincible and the game-worthy Guardians of the Globe, Battle Beast finds himself in prison and kills countless Viltrumites in his escape. Even being stuck in the vacuum of space wasn’t capable of killing Battle Beast, so he once again found his way back to continue his battling ways. Constantly at odds with the Viltrumites, he would eventually take on the most powerful of them all: Thragg.
Upon finding Thragg, the evil leader of the Viltrumites is gravely wounded, leading to Battle Beast saving his opponent before wounding himself in a similar way, all just to make their eventual fight fair. The two beings would battle for days straight, both injured and neither seemingly having the advantage. Eventually, Thragg would manage to squeak out a win against Battle Beast, finally killing his foe, though Battle Beast would make it clear that he was grateful for such an incredible battle. Only time will tell if Battle Beast will appear again in the rest of season two or even season three of Invincible.
Invincible is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
