  • The unique and R-rated approach of Deadpool 3 offers a refreshing break in the superhero genre for fans awaiting its 2024 release.

With Deadpool & Wolverine on the horizon, yet another exciting potential cameo might just have been revealed by the notoriously informative Funko Pop toy line, giving fans more fuel to the fire of a popular casting theory.

Deadpool & Wolverine is the third installment in the Deadpool franchise, bringing Ryan Reynolds’ mech with a mouth and friends into the mainline Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside returning Fox Marvel star Hugh Jackman, reprising his iconic role as Wolverine. In addition to the Deadpool 3 writers’ R-rated guarantee, fans are also excited for the many rumored cameos that will come alongside the deuteragonists, including returning characters and new names like Dazzler.

While Deadpool & Wolverine will reportedly bring one important multiverse concept into the MCU, a recent listing seems to suggest that a fan-favorite character from the comic books might also be making an MCU debut in the upcoming film. As reported by ComicBookMovie in their latest report on the upcoming project’s massive cast, a leaked listing for a second wave of Funko Pops for the upcoming film seems to suggest that the popular Deadpool variant Lady Deadpool from Earth-3013 will be making an appearance in the upcoming threequel. While set photos have previously fueled speculation that Deadpool variants would make an appearance, this new listing serves as a more informative piece of intel.

Lady Deadpool, a variant of the talkative mercenary with a penchant for leadership and noticeably more sanity than her fellow Deadpools, has featured extensively in comics, most notably in the Deadpool Corps series alongside others like Dogpool and Kidpool. Speculation has highlighted singing sensation Taylor Swift and Hollywood star Blake Lively as the top potential choices for the role, much to the delight of MCU fans. Swift specifically has also been rumored to be in the running to play Dazzler or herself in Deadpool 3, but director Shawn Levy and the star have remained resolutely tight-lipped about her involvement in the film, leaving fans with no way to confirm what the real case is until release.

This isn’t the first such news that fans have gotten, as a rumor revealed that a Wolverine variant could make an appearance in the upcoming sequel. With this new addition, the film’s already massive and star-studded cast potentially grows even larger, as does the difficulty of making a movie with a cohesive plot. Lady Deadpool’s long-established role as the voice of reason amongst Deadpool variants and the most cognitively normal of the bunch is certainly an interesting concept that could be used to great effect in the movie. This has to be played for laughs as the immense cast certainly doesn’t lend itself to in-depth character work, so fans might potentially need a spin-off project to really get the full Lady Deadpool experience.

Deadpool 3 being the MCU’s only r-rated movie is a good thing, as is its position as the only theatrical project coming out of the MCU in 2024. With the unique approach to the superhero genre that the Deadpool franchise brings seemingly immune to the general fatigue that has plagued the genre in recent times, a year’s break from the mainline MCU stories punctuated by the palate cleanser that Deadpool & Wolverine could be for fans might just be what the doctor ordered.

Deadpool & Wolverine is set for theatrical release on July 26, 2024.
