Will There Be A Season 3 For From?

Highlights

  • “From” is a horror series that has been compared to “Lost” and has gained recognition and award nominations.
  • Season 2 ended with new challenges and mysteries, including a character who believes the town is a social experiment.
  • Season 3 is confirmed to be happening, and fans can expect Tabitha to search for answers and the cicadas to play a significant role.

The original horror series From on MGM+ is a spiritual successor to Lost, which the few remaining Lost fans will find just as intriguing with its long list of mysteries. It even stars Lost alum Harold Perrineau who delivers a stellar performance as Boyd Stevens. The show remained under the radar for its first season, but that changed when it received several award nominations, including “Best Horror Television Series.” The second season ended in June 2023 with a climactic finale that answered some questions while prompting more.

From follows a group of people stuck in a small town that appears to have a plethora of modes of egress from the one road that leads out of town to the open borders surrounded by a forest. However, it only takes one brief drive down the road for visitors to learn that it loops around, leading them down the same road. Traversing through the forest doesn’t help either, as it never leads to freedom. Couple that with the fact that flesh-eating monsters populate the area and come out at night to terrorize the residents doesn’t make matters easier. Season two ended with a splash and now fans want to know if there will ever be a follow-up.

How did From Season 2 End?

Season two of From introduced a busload of new characters who introduced a bevy of new challenges for the residents of the little bubble they’re stuck in. Randall is one such character who becomes a challenge as he ends the season taking Donna, the town’s sort of matriarch, at gunpoint because he believes the whole situation is a sick and twisted social experiment that Donna is in on. While anything is possible when it comes to what this little pocket dimension is, there’s no proof leaning toward any one theory, whether that be the place being purgatory with all the characters dead, ala the famous Lost theory, they’re all in a social experiment, it’s a simulation, or the town exists in a pocket dimension.

Sheriff Boyd Stevens’ (Harold Perrineau) story expanded quite a bit in season two. At the end of season one, he ventured out into the forest in search of a way out or, at the very least, answers. He got farther than anyone before him and found a lighthouse. However, he had to flee after thunderous sounds echoed all around him, forcing him to jump into a hollow tree, which teleported him to the bottom of a concrete shaft that was more than 20 feet tall. Season two revealed a man at the top of the shaft who helped Boyd escape the shaft, but when the Sheriff climbed to the top he discovered the man old, frail, nearly naked, and chained to a wall. Boyd attempted to free the stranger but was met with aggression.

The frail man cut Boyd’s arm open and then exposed the wound to an open wound of his hand while shouting a cryptic message about their blood being joined. Unbeknownst to Boyd, this infected his blood with parasitic worms. Boyd managed to escape the tower and return to town where he discovered the worms in his blood kill the carnivorous creatures.

The most exciting bit of the finale was Tabitha Matthews, who wandered into the woods with determination and found the lighthouse Boyd only briefly saw before he ran off. Tabitha enters the lighthouse and climbs to the top where she’s met by a little boy. This boy, with barely a muttered word, pushes Tabitha out the window, seemingly to her death. However, Tabitha opens her eyes to find herself in a hospital room. She escaped the town somehow. A doctor informs her that a group of hikers discovered her in a forest, hinting that everything she experienced in the town and the lighthouse was real. She moves from her bed to a window and sees a very New England-looking town outside that is definitely not the same town her family finds themselves trapped in. Now the trick is how to rescue everyone.

Is From Season 3 Happening?

Luckily, fans of the horror mystery series will get a chance to see if Tabitha returns to the mysterious town or if anyone else escapes. There’s been no confirmation of a release date, but MGM+ did confirm season three is coming. If the third season follows the same trend as the previous season, coming out a year after its previous season, it will premiere sometime in 2024.

One of the directors on the series, Jack Bender, spoke with Tell-Tale TV, addressing the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes and how it put many productions, including From, in a holding pattern. It sounds like a good chunk of the show is already in post-production and most of it is written, but there’s no way to tell.

We didn’t have enough ready to go that we, in the studio, felt we could start and not have to stop

It’s likely that the majority of the cast that returned for season two will be in season three as well unless their characters died off during the sophomore season. Audiences are likely to see Catalina Sandino Moreno return, as she’s the only character to seemingly escape the loopy town. Just as season two brought in new characters, season three will likely do the same. If there’s a time jump, Moreno’s Tabitha could have a new group of friends or find herself trapped in a hospital for observation, bringing in doctor and nurse characters.

What to Expect in Season 3

Everything and anything about From’s third season is purely speculation unless it’s coming from the mouth of the showrunner or someone in the production. There are no details about the story. But that’s not going to stop fans from speculating. Finding herself outside of the cursed town, Tabitha will likely be hunting for the cause of everything. She might not be keen on returning immediately because that doesn’t help anyone except to confirm to everyone that they’re, in fact, still alive and not stuck in some kind of purgatory.

Cicadas are terrorizing the inhabitants of the town and Boyd, along with Tabitha’s husband Jim, will search for a way to stop them. The cicadas have been a small part of the series since the beginning and are only now developing into something substantial. Director Jack Bender did assure fans that the show has no intention of slowing down in season 3. In the same interview with Tell-Tale TV, he said:

We’re going to pick up season three. It does get worse; It’s like quicksand.
