From Season 2 Ending, Explained

  • Will there be a From season 3?

Audiences didn’t know what to make of From after its first season, but it gripped viewers nonetheless. From’s season two finale took it up a notch by doing something many mysteries neglect to do early on: It showed a glimpse of the truth. Season one ended with a bus of new people arriving at the supernatural town in middle America on a bus, while season two ended with one of the residents escaping in a fall to their death.

Since From’s first season, a little boy in white has been appearing to a select few residents of the town, most notably the Matthews boy, Ethan (Simon Webster). However, in season two, the boy decided to show himself to Ethan’s mother, Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno). At first, his appearance seemed sinister in nature simply because of everything else that happened in the town, but as time passed, he proved helpful. In Tabitha’s case, he helped her escape the town that wanted to kill its residents.

How does From Season 2 end?

From takes the cake when it comes to loose ends for a show to tie up in a season finale. The biggest twist in From‘s season two finale was Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) escaping the town everyone is trapped in after a little boy pushed her from the top of a lighthouse. Throughout season two, Tabitha received visions of children and the lighthouse. When she discovered that Victor’s mom had gone to the lighthouse to find a way out, Tabitha decided to follow in her footsteps. She woke up in a hospital bed with a doctor informing her that a group of hikers found her on a trail. Since the hikers didn’t find anyone else from Tabitha’s family with her, fans can rule out the “everyone is in a coma” theory. However, it does spawn a series of new theories about the boy in white who pushed her, as he has seemingly helped other characters.

Tabitha wasn’t the only person in “Fromville” seeing visions. The character Jade (David Alpay) started seeing visions of a symbol. After learning that another resident committed horrible acts because of the symbol, Jade found his way into the tunnels under the town that Tabitha told him about. There, he found a circle of rock slabs with light shining down on them, suggesting that some sort of ritual took place. A moment after finding the rock slabs, Jade started seeing deformed children lying on the rocks, pointing upward, and repeating the word “anghkooey.” Looking up to see what they were pointing at, Jade saw the symbol made from the roots of trees.

Then there’s the ever-escalating monstrosities the forest continued throwing at the residents of “Fromville.” Boyd (Harold Perrineau) witnessed several characters fall into comas, with their eyes going completely white. Instead of lying silent as most coma patients do, these characters screamed out in fear and pain. Boyd managed to help the trio of characters by destroying a mystical music box that popped up throughout the season. Unfortunately, an image of Boyd’s late wife warned him that destroying the music box would only postpone the pain and suffering they endured, not end it.

On the surface of it all, From is about the Matthews family finding themselves trapped in a small unnamed town with other residents similarly trapped. During the day, everything is nice, with the residents fulfilling their roles. When night falls, on the other hand, menacing creatures come out of the surrounding forest to torment and ultimately kill the residents. Thanks to some talismans Boyd discovered when he first arrived, the residents are able to keep the human-looking monsters out of their homes.

Unfortunately, escaping the town isn’t as easy as following the road out to a highway. That road simply wraps around and brings drivers back to the town. Going into the forest doesn’t yield promising results either, as it never deposits travelers out onto a highway. Instead, it leaves them vulnerable to the monsters and other threats that haven’t made themselves known to the town. However, venturing into the forest is the only way to find the lighthouse that season three showed the audience is the only way to escape.

Underneath it all, From is about hope, fear, isolation, death, and faith. It’s easily comparable to Lost, but promises to answer more questions than its spiritual predecessor did.

Will there be a From season 3?

MGM+ picked up From for a third season, which is good since there are still many mysteries that the residents of “Fromville” haven’t solved. There’s the voice that came on over the radio when Jim (Eion Bailey) built a radio tower, which lends credence to the theory that the town is a social experiment of sorts. There’s the case of worms that Boyd used to infect and kill the smiling monster. Most importantly, there’s Tabitha, who ended up back in the real world. Jack Bender, one of the show’s directors, told Tell-TaleTV:

It builds and builds to a really powerful, crazy, climactic end of the season, which is where we’re going to pick up season three. It does get worse; it’s like quicksand.

There’s no premiere date for From’s third season yet, but the cast and crew are in the process of filming.
