Every inhabitant of Farscape’s living ship, Moya, was running from their past in some way, but none more than Chiana, the Nebari thief portrayed by Gigi Edgley. A member of a conformity-obsessed, reprogram-happy alien race known as the Nebari, Chiana joined Moya’s crew as part of a desperate attempt to retain her individuality. Twenty-five years later, Edgley is still just as in love with the character as when Chiana first debuted partway through Farscape’s first season, and the actress would love to return to the role in a revival or continuation of the series (if it were ever to happen)
Tune into Shout! TV March 19 for Farscape’s 25th-anniversary marathon, featuring new segments with stars Ben Browder and Gigi Edgley, and an exclusive introduction by executive producer Brian Henson.
In a Game Rant exclusive video, Gigi Edgley’s eyes lit up when asked if she would return to the role of Chiana. “I will be first in line,” the actress declared. “I will paint myself up if I have to,” she added, referring to Chiana’s pale gray skin. Even two decades since Farscape concluded with The Peacekeeper Wars miniseries, Gigi Edgley remains a massive fan of the sci-fi show and the character she portrayed.
She Strongly Believes Farscape Will Come Back
The question was posed to Edgley as a hypothetical one – “IF Farscape returns, would you come back as Chiana?” But Edgley’s response showed a clear confidence in the show’s future. “WHEN we get more Farscape,” she immediately corrected, before adding “You guys know that my love for Farscape is crazy and deep and wild” Her love for the series, and the science fiction genre in general, is indeed well-known. Since her time as Chiana, Edgley has appeared as the host of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge, the voice of several characters in the 2022 game High on Life, and much more.
Gigi Edgley shared a humorous story about an incident at DragonCon, where she explained the depths of her desire for more Farscape to series co-creator Brian Henson:
I did a panel at DragonCon with Brian Henson, and I threatened to tie him to a chair until he gave us more
Farscape.
And he said ‘Gigi, behave yourself.’ So I want
Farscape
back just as much as you guys, and I believe it will happen.
Chiana’s Future Was Undecided at the End of Farscape
The Peacekeeper Wars miniseries ended on a bittersweet note for Chiana. She finally felt comfortable leaving Moya and creating a life for herself without fear of being captured and forcibly reprogrammed by the Nebari authorities. However, Ka D’Argo, another member of the crew with whom she had formed a romantic connection, died in the process of ending the war and brokering peace. She brought D’Argo’s sword to his still-living son, but she was unsure about where she would go from there. She did plan to visit the home planet of her friend and fellow Moya resident Rygel XVI and considered settling there, but she had not definitively decided as of the series’ final episode.
Edgley’s co-star Ben Browder, who plays displaced astronaut Jon Crichton, suggested a continuation of Farscape should show how the characters’ lives had changed in 25 years. It would be interesting to see where Chiana ended up after all those years. She could be helping Rygel reclaim the throne of the Hynerian Empire – if he even still wants it, that is – continuing the fight against the corrupt Nebari authorities, traveling around the universe carrying out heists as a master thief and con artist, or something completely unexpected. Wherever Chiana does end up, however, in a hypothetical Farscape continuation, one thing is sure – Gigi Edgley appears ready to bring everyone’s favorite rebellious Nebari to life on the screen once more.
