Dragon Ball: Where Will The Heroes Go Next?

Highlights

  • With Toriyama’s successor continuing Dragon Ball, the series has exciting potential for new arcs and adventures for the Z-Fighters.
  • The idea of exploring Universe 6 and helping the Pride Troopers in Universe 11 could lead to compelling storylines and character development.
  • The concept of resurrecting universes 13-18 post-Tournament of Power could serve as a thrilling final arc for the Dragon Ball franchise.

Following the tragic and untimely passing of the legendary Akira Toriyama, the Dragon Ball manga has since been on hiatus. However, it was recently revealed that it would continue at the hands of Toriyama’s successor, Toyotarou, and that he would be working to complete the outlines for the direction that the series would go in that Toriyama created before his passing.

This opens up many new and exciting possibilities about where the series could be headed. Although the long-awaited Black Frieza arc is most likely the next addition to the Dragon Ball canon, many believe that this won’t be the final arc of the franchise, as the rich world that Toriyama has created has boundless potential to tell incredible stories. So, let’s see what kinds of adventures await the Z-Fighters.

Journey To Universe 6

The inclusion of the multiversal aspect was one of the best things in all of Dragon Ball Super as it opened up tons of new options for where the next adventure for the Z-Fighters could take place. One of these was Universe 6, which was also the subject of the Universe 6 Arc, which had the heroes go up against the most powerful warriors from an entirely separate cosmos!

I’m going to win and resurrect you lot with the Super Dragon Balls!

Why it’s a good next step

Ever since it was revealed that Universe 6 also had Saiyans, Vegeta sort of took Cabba under his wing. Their master-student relationship was further compounded when Cabba invited Vegeta to Planet Sadala, which honestly seems like the perfect next step that fans have been wanting to see for years. Over here, not only could Vegeta and Goku meet up with the rest of their race and train them in the ways of battle that they have mastered, but this would also serve as the perfect set-up to make Cooler canon by having him be the ‘Frieza’ of Universe 6!

Helping The Pride Troopers In Universe 11

The Pride Troopers of Universe 11 proved to be the greatest threat that Universe 7 had to face in the Tournament of Power, and Jiren was the greatest obstacle even among them. During the brief look at his backstory, it was shown that Jiren had lost his family and friends to a vicious tyrant, and the leader of this band was strong enough to defeat Jiren’s entire band easily. Though never stated, it’s implied that Jiren never defeated him.

Strength is justice! Strength is absolute!

Why it’s a good next step

By having Goku and Vegeta travel to Universe 11 to help the Pride Troopers, the juxtaposition of the scenarios would be great with Goku and Jiren working together, as they would now be helping the same people who came the closest to eliminating them. Moreover, there could also be an aspect of mystery to the whole thing, where the heroes would have to work together to find this villain that has been haunting Jiren all of his life, as the flashback clearly showed him to be an astronomically powerful fighter and someone of great importance. When it was first shown, it was almost as if this villain was being set up as the antagonist of a future arc.

The 4 Exceptional Universes

Back in the Tournament of Power, all the universes battled it out for survival except for 4. This was because Universes 1, 5, 8, and 12 all had exceptionally high mortal levels, so they were exempt from elimination and didn’t need to take part in the tournament. This also poses a good deal of intrigue and mystery to these universes, as the characters here would be stronger than almost every other mortal in the multiverse.

All universes form a pair… A front and a back.

Why it’s a good next step

All things considered, Dragon Ball is still a battle shonen series at the end of the day that revolves around fighting and the need to get stronger. So, there would be nothing more important to Goku and Vegeta than to meet and fight characters who are more powerful than any they’ve ever seen before, which makes their visit to these 4 exempted universes all the more likely.

The Second Tournament Of Power

The Tournament of Power was arguably the most important event in the history of the Dragon Ball multiverse, as trillions of lives hung in the balance. Here, fans got to see the strongest characters from across the franchise fight it out for the survival of their universe and though Universe 7 came out on top, much time has passed since then. This would make for a perfect eventual setting for Dragon Ball Super.

No matter how strong Jiren is, we can’t give up!

Why it’s a good next step

This arc would serve as a great next step. This is because although Universe 7 won the first time, this new arc would see the return of the rest of the multiversal fighters, who would have undergone substantial training since then. Characters like Jiren would have only gotten stronger since last time, so it would be amazing to see him and other powerhouses go up against the Z-Fighters at this stage. Not only this, but this new tournament may also just include the exempted universes from last time. As for Universe 7, they may already just have the strongest team out there with their new recruits!

Universes 13-18

Although this wouldn’t be a wholly new idea, the events following Android 17’s wish at the end of the Tournament of Power left a lot of fans theorizing. Since he wished for all the universes to be resurrected, many believe that this wish also entailed the resurrection of the previously erased universes 13-18. With the Gods and Angels being the central antagonists of the story, this would serve as the perfect final arc for the entire Dragon Ball franchise.

Please restore all the universes that were erased.

Why it’s a good next step

This is a concept that has been the subject of a lot of theorizing and was even made into reality in the fan manga, Dragon Ball: Kakumei. The events of this see the resurrection of the fallen universes and how they conspire to overthrow the rule that Zeno and the Grand Priest have over the multiverse. While not canon, Kakumei covers this concept exceptionally well and shows how a multiversal war would serve as the perfect final arc for the franchise.

Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
