Dragon Ball: The Strongest Non-Canon Moves in the Series, Explained

Highlights

  • Powerful non-canon moves like Cooler’s Supernova and Janemba’s Lightning Shower Rain rival the iconic attacks of Dragon Ball.
  • Goku’s Dragon Fist is one of his strongest non-canon attacks, using a massive Ki-formed Shenron to defeat opponents.
  • Gogeta’s Big Bang Kamehameha, a fusion of Goku and Vegeta’s attacks, showcases immense power in Dragon Ball franchise.

Some moves in the Dragon Ball franchise are almost as famous as the series itself! Ever since the show started airing, it has managed to influence every single child who watched it into trying to transform into a Super Saiyan or to charge up enough Ki to shoot out a powerful Kamehameha. This phenomenon was so iconic that it has impacted the entire anime industry, with some of the biggest series paying homage to these techniques in one way or another.

However, as iconic and powerful moves like the Kamehameha or Special Beam Canon may be, some of the strongest attacks that Dragon Ball has ever seen have only been in the various non-canon iterations of the franchise. Since these attacks are described as incredibly powerful, to the point where they may stand with some of Super’s strongest moves, let’s take a look at them and see exactly why this is!

Cooler’s Supernova

Cooler’s Answer To The Death Ball

images/news/2024/5/27/dragon-ball-the-strongest-non-canon-moves-in-the-series-explained_1.jpg

First Appearance

Dragon Ball Z: Cooler’s Revenge

Debut Date

July 20, 1991

When Cooler made his debut in the non-canon movie bearing his name in 1991, he was shown to be an exceptionally powerful character who was also the older brother of the series’ most notorious villain, Frieza. His battle against Goku was fairly equal when it started, which showed him transform into his amazing evolved form that required Super Saiyan Goku to defeat.

It is I who decides who lives and who dies! All living things are mere playthings to me! No one can comprehend my power and cunning!

Cooler’s Supernova attack is very similar to his brother’s final move, the Death Ball. After distracting Goku, he raises a single finger above his head and forms a giant ball of fiery Ki that is powerful enough to destroy an entire planet. Even though Super Saiyan Goku was far stronger than the villain, he was still shown to struggle with pushing back the Supernova initially. Though not as powerful as some other attacks, it stands out for how vicious of an attack it was for the time it came out.

Janemba’s Lightning Shower Rain

A Powerful Move That Shreds Everything In Its Path

images/news/2024/5/27/dragon-ball-the-strongest-non-canon-moves-in-the-series-explained_2.jpg

First Appearance

Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn

Debut Date

March 4, 1995

Janemba was the terrifying main antagonist of the 1995 movie, Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn. Made from all the negative energy in Hell and other dimensions, Janemba had incredible reality-warping and dimensional abilities, which showed him to be a threat far greater than what even Super Saiyan 3 Goku could deal with. He utilizes his unique powers in various ways, such as the powerful Dimension Sword Slash.

Janemba!

However, arguably his most powerful move was the terrifying Lightning Shower Rain. By running his finger through the air and using his reality-warping abilities to shatter a small part of the dimension, he can then fire many shards at his opponent that shred away at anything in front of them. The power of this being is immense, which is to be expected from someone who is called the embodiment of evil.

Goku’s 10x Kamehameha

A Stronger Version Of Anime’s Most Iconic Move

images/news/2024/5/27/dragon-ball-the-strongest-non-canon-moves-in-the-series-explained_3.jpg

First Appearance

Dragon Ball GT, Episode 36, “The Tuffle Gorilla Attacks!”

Debut Date

February 5, 1997

Dragon Ball GT debuted with a lot of criticism, but the transformations and attacks that the series introduced were some of the greatest the franchise has ever seen. As Goku got stronger and unlocked the beloved and revered Super Saiyan 4 transformation, his arsenal also got far deadlier, which is most easily seen with the new iteration of his Kamehameha wave.

Sorry about all that. I’m surprised as well. Surprised at how strong I’ve become.

The 10x Kamehameha became the new face of the legendary attack for the duration of Dragon Ball GT, since this was the version used by Goku’s most powerful form. Though the attack was very similar in terms of function, it changed in appearance, taking on a striking red color and was shown to be far more destructive, since it was 10 times stronger than the regular move.

Goku’s Dragon Fist

Goku’s Strongest Non-Canon Attack

First Appearance

Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon

Debut Date

July 15, 1995

Goku has one of the most diverse arsenals in all of Dragon Ball, which is shown in the extent of all his defensive and offensive moves. However, one incredible attack of his that has unfortunately never actually been shown in the canon of the series is the incredible Dragon Fist, which was first shown in the 13th movie of Dragon Ball Z. The move evolved and got even more powerful during GT, where Goku used it a few times.

Fight me if you are ready to die!

Firstly, Goku gathers a significant amount of energy and lunges towards his opponents with a fist extended outwards. Suddenly, a massive version of Shenron himself is formed purely out of Ki and holds such destructive power that it allows Goku to penetrate right through his opponent. Often, the dragon itself either wraps around the opponent or even acts semi-independently before dealing the final blow, finishing off the villain.

Vegeta’s Final Shine Attack

A Combination Of Some Of Vegeta’s Strongest Moves

images/news/2024/5/27/dragon-ball-the-strongest-non-canon-moves-in-the-series-explained_5.jpg

First Appearance

Dragon Ball GT, Episode 44, “17 times 2”

Debut Date

April 30, 1997

One of the biggest gripes that many fans had with the GT series was the fact that Vegeta was a very underutilized part of it. Despite him having attained the Super Saiyan 4 state by the end of it, he was living more within Goku’s shadow than ever before. However, he did have his moments, such as when he created a brand-new finishing move by the name of Final Shine Attack.

And I admire your ability to die… Final Shine Attack!

This attack was not only the strongest move in Vegeta’s entire arsenal, it was also a combination of some of his most powerful moves from the past. It was performed in a single hand that Vegeta put to his side, forming a light green ball of Ki that he shoots out in a massive wave to dish out significant damage, although it barely injured his opponents when it was used. It was a mixture of the Final Flash, Shine Shot, and Big Bang Attack, which made it Vegeta’s strongest move despite it not doing much to his enemies.

Baby Vegeta’s Revenge Death Ball

A Powerful Attack Made Up Of Absorbed Energy

images/news/2024/5/27/dragon-ball-the-strongest-non-canon-moves-in-the-series-explained_6.jpg

First Appearance

Dragon Ball, Episode 29, “The Fall of the Saiyans”

Debut Date

November 27, 1996

Baby Vegeta was quite a powerful villain that Goku had to face early on in GT. It was stated that Baby alone was more powerful than any villain from Dragon Ball Z, so adding his power along with that of Vegeta made him an especially powerful threat that required Goku to go Super Saiyan 4 to defeat. Even then, Baby Vegeta’s Revenge Death Ball almost destroyed the entire world.

You, too, will become one of my loyal and obedient slaves, Vegeta!

This attack serves as the direct antithesis of the Spirit Bomb. Due to Baby’s nature being that of a parasitic being, he possessed many people across the planet, because of which he was able to collect all their negative emotions and hatred into himself, which acted as fuel for this attack. The form Baby takes before letting out this attack in his Super Baby 2 form is also very similar to the Spirit Bomb and is almost just as powerful.

Omega Shenron’s Negative Karma Ball

The Strongest Non-Canon Villain Attack

images/news/2024/5/27/dragon-ball-the-strongest-non-canon-moves-in-the-series-explained_7.jpg

First Appearance

Dragon Ball GT, Episode 60, “Super Saiyan 4 Fusion”

Debut Date

October 22, 1997

Up until 2013’s Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Omega Shenron was by far the most powerful villain that the series had ever seen! Even though he was not canon, his strength was legendary, to the point where he was far superior to both Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Vegeta, and he was only defeated by a Spirit Bomb that was powered by living things across the universe.

Prepare yourself. This is the day you die, Goku.

Much like Baby’s Revenge Death Ball, Omega Shenron’s most powerful move, which is also known as the Minus Energy Power Ball, takes the negativity and bad emotions of people to form a gigantic Ki ball with the power to obliterate the Earth. However, this seems to be even more powerful, as this energy is derived from the cracked Black Star Dragon Balls on his chest, which are each a testament to centuries of humanity’s greed and negativity.

Gogeta’s Big Bang Kamehameha

An Attack Strong Enough To Exist In Dragon Ball Super

images/news/2024/5/27/dragon-ball-the-strongest-non-canon-moves-in-the-series-explained_8.jpg

First Appearance

Dragon Ball GT, Episode 60, “Super Saiyan 4 Fusion”

Debut Date

October 22, 1997

The closing moments of Dragon Ball GT introduced fans to one of the strongest characters in the entire franchise, one who would do well even in Super; Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta. Formed from the Metamoran Fusion Dance between Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Vegeta, this character proved to be so astronomically powerful that he was embarrassing Omega Shenron, the strongest villain in Dragon Ball history up until that point.

Say, this time, could you work on me right here? My shoulders are so stiff!

Not only was Gogeta able to turn all the negative energy in Omega’s Negative Karma Ball into positive energy with just a single kick, but he fired off his ultimate move which did an incredible amount of damage to the villain. The Big Bang Kamehameha is a mixture of Goku and Vegeta’s extremely powerful attacks and was so strong that it caused Omega to revert to his base form of Syn Shenron with just a single hit, with Gogeta stating that another hit would wipe the Shadow Dragon off the face of the Earth. The video games depict an even stronger version of this attack called the 100x Big Bang Kamehameha!

Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
