Finally, Dragon Ball Super chapter 99 is out and fans are incredibly excited to witness what could be a pivotal chapter for the character of Son Gohan in Dragon Ball Super. For years, fans have been wanting Gohan to receive some sort of progression in his character arc in the series. Of course, Gohan succeeded in becoming a scholar like he wanted, however, at the end of the day, in a battle-focused series such as Dragon Ball, this only meant that Gohan lost quite a lot of importance.

That is precisely why the ongoing arc of Dragon Ball Super was so important for him because it gave a balance to his character and made him realize that if he wants to continue living the life that he loves so dearly, then he has to be strong enough to protect that life in the first place. Dragon Ball Super chapter 99 saw the awakening of Gohan and his beast form and this led to him hitting a new level of power after years of fans wishing for it.
Piccolo Vs Cell Max
Dragon Ball Super chapter 99 began with Orange Piccolo fighting against Cell Max. Fans have seen this fight continue for quite a while now and it continues in this chapter as well. Piccolo managed to hit a new level of power and that’s something that every fan has seen. Getting the power of Orange Piccolo was great for this character since he was starting to become irrelevant in major fights as well. With this power-up, Piccolo is relevant once again and can compete with the strongest of fighters and play more of an active role in the ongoing arcs.
Cell Max is one of the strongest enemies that Earth has ever faced and for Piccolo to go head-to-head against a threat this strong and hold his own is nothing short of spectacular. Of course, it was clear in Dragon Ball Super chapter 99 that Piccolo was not as strong as Cell Max, however, he was still able to put on quite a show and hold his own against this monstrous being for quite a while. The idea was to let Gohan charge his power up the best he could and unleash all his fury on Cell. In this way, Piccolo believed that victory would be certain. However, it was certainly not as easy as Piccolo thought it would be.
Piccolo’s Defeat
Dragon Ball Super chapter 99 largely focused on the fight between Piccolo and Cell Max. This fight, although somewhat even at first, became incredibly hard for Piccolo to continue the more time went on. In fact, Piccolo could very well have died in this fight had he continued fighting. That is precisely why all the other fighters around him decided to lend him a hand and help. Gotenks started his attack on Cell Max as well and, shortly afterward, 18 and Krillin joined as well. Gamma 2 Android also joined in and decided to do what little he could do, however, Cell Max and his strength was simply too great for them. This major clash ended in the victory of Cell and it became clear that none of them could do anything to stop his might.
Dragon Ball: The Ancient Chinese Story That Inspired Goku
Son Goku, the protagonist of one of the biggest manga and anime franchises, Dragon Ball, is heavily inspired by this Chinese mythical character.
Furthermore, Cell proceeded to display even greater feats as the fight continued. It became clear that the more he got berserk, the stronger he got. Even though he was damaged to some extent in this fight as well, it was quite clear for everyone to see that they did not possess enough power to defeat him. As Cell started to overpower everyone around him, Piccolo almost looked like he was going to die. In fact, Cell decided to destroy him with one of his strongest techniques that would surely have finished the job, however, it was Gamma who came in the way and tanked this hit. Of course, to Gohan, it wasn’t quite apparent as to who died and this led him to snap once again, just as he did in the Cell Saga.
Fans are very familiar with how powerful Gohan gets when he snaps and his true potential awakens. That is precisely what happened in this chapter of Dragon Ball Super as well.
Gohan Beast Emerges
Finally, immediately after Cell launched this powerful attack, Gohan managed to bring out his utmost best and access a transformation called Beast Gohan. Fans know this form from Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and this is certainly Gohan at his very peak. Now, fans of the Dragon Ball Super manga get to enjoy the transformation as well and, as mentioned earlier, it was triggered by the apparent death of Piccolo and Gamma 2. Immediately after Gohan took this form, it became clear how strong he had gotten. Finally, his true Saiyan potential was fulfilled.
Cell Max, who was strong enough to destroy all of them, tried punching Gohan and he wouldn’t even budge. Gohan’s attacks were so strong that Cell could not keep up with him. His speed and strength had both reached a completely new level and it just goes to show that this character might just be the strongest among the earthlings now.
That said, Cell certainly deserves more credit as he managed to stay in the game despite the monstrous performance by Gohan. Cell then got so desperate that he decided to blow up the entire planet and everyone with it. For an advanced being such as himself, surviving this would be possible, however, the same could not be said for all the others around him. That is why he resorted to this lowly tactic and this essentially triggered the finale of this fight.
The Finale Of The Fight
Towards the end of Dragon Ball Super chapter 99, fans got to see all the fighters combine their might to hold down Cell. Piccolo did his part to hold him down and prevent him from destroying everything. Meanwhile, all the others shot at him and damaged him to some extent as well. This gave Gohan the perfect opportunity to charge up the Special Beam Cannon, which would be enough to completely destroy Cell Max for good. This was a nice touch and showed that defeating him needed the collaboration of everyone, even if Gohan was much stronger than Cell.
With a barrage of attacks being launched at him one by one, Cell realized that his end was near and was getting more desperate. That is precisely when Gohan finished charging his ultimate attack and, at the very end of the chapter, decided to launch it.
Sadly, fans did not get to see this attack hit or its aftermath. This is because that is exactly where the chapter ended and, undoubtedly, the aftermath of this fight will be tackled in the upcoming chapter of Dragon Ball Super, which will be out next month. For now, fans simply have to sit back and wait to see how the series progresses from here onwards.
