Highlights

  • Majin Buu’s various forms have differing strengths and intellects, with some being much more deadly than others.
  • Evil Buu is generally considered to be the weakest version of Buu, while Buuhan is the strongest in Dragon Ball Z.
  • Good Buu eventually becomes the strongest version of Buu due to power creep in Dragon Ball Super.

Although Cell and Frieza are generally considered to have been much better Dragon Ball villains, few would dispute the fact that Majin Buu is the strongest antagonist in Dragon Ball Z. He serves as the main villain of the series’ final arc and takes on many different forms before Goku and the rest of the Z Fighters are finally able to bring him down.

Every Majin Buu form is powerful, but some of them are a lot more deadly than others. As one might expect, each new version unveiled by the villain tends to be stronger than the last one, although the influence of the fighters that he absorbs can also make a pretty big difference to the Dragon Ball villain’s overall temperament and intellect.

Uub will not be considered for this list due to him being the reincarnation of Buu rather than a unique Buu form, while Majuub will not be included as

series. Conversely, Innocent Buu and Good Buu will be classed as two separate entities, as although they do share the same appearance, their power levels differ quite a bit. Rankings will be based on raw strength.

7 Evil Buu

Anime Debut: The Evil of Men | Manga Debut: The Creature of Wrath

Evil Buu comes as the result of Innocent Buu expelling all of the sinister energy from his body and is the weakest version of Majin Buu when every canon Dragon Ball series is taken into account. Despite his lack of strength, though, he draws great power from his anger and fights without mercy, which ultimately allows him to get the better of Good Buu when the two square off in combat. Many consider him to be the most intelligent Buu form too, as he’s by far the most articulate.

6 Kid Buu

Anime Debut: Evil Kid Buu! | Manga Debut: The Buu of Pure Evil

Despite being one of the most deadly, Kid Buu is actually one of the weakest forms of Buu when it comes to out-and-out strength. It’s effectively the villain’s default form, and thus the amount of power that he has at his disposal is limited when compared to some of the many Buu forms that come later. He does manage to hold his own against Super Saiyan 3 Goku, although in typical Goku fashion, the latter later reveals that he was holding back so that Vegeta could take a swing.

5 Innocent Buu

Anime Debut: Buu is Hatched | Manga Debut: The Djinn Awakens?!

The idea that absorbing one of the most powerful entities in the universe could make Kid Buu weaker is a little preposterous. However, the Grand Supreme Kai’s absorption definitely makes Buu a lot less of a threat, with Innocent Buu capable of both good and evil depending on which of his inner voices he listens to. His childlike nature makes him one of the most memorable Dragon Ball villains to date and seems to have provided a lot of the inspiration for Janemba’s first form in Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn.

4 Super Buu

Anime Debut: Buu Against Buu | Manga Debut: Two Buus?!

After Evil Buu absorbs Good Buu, he transforms into Super Buu, who has the power of the two previous iterations combined. This time, though, he’s no longer susceptible to the Grand Supreme Kai’s calming influence, which allows him to hold his own against even the strongest of the Z Fighters. Even when he finds himself outmatched physically, Super Buu’s cunning gives him the edge against his foes, allowing him to gradually pick them off one by one and become exponentially stronger in the process.

3 Buutenks / Buucolo

Anime Debut: Majin Buu Transforms | Manga Debut: Ambush!

By absorbing Piccolo and Gotenks, Super Buu was able to boost both his strength and his intelligence, which in turn gives him all of the attributes needed to take on Gohan in his Potential Unleashed form. Eventually, though, Gotenks’ fusion wares off and Super Buu’s power level drops significantly, forcing him to seek out somebody else to absorb. Embarrassingly, Gohan then falls for the exact same trick that Gotenks and Piccolo did, and in the process, deprives fans of seeing the first-ever father-son fusion.

2 Buuhan

Anime Debut: Ready to Fuse? | Manga Debut: Will the Potara Prevail?!

images/news/2024/7/6/dragon-ball-strongest-buu-form-best-version-majin_6.jpg

Buuhan is the strongest version of Buu in Dragon Ball Z by a considerable margin. Granted, he’s not quite as dangerous as Kid Buu or Super Buu’s initial form due to the influence of the many fighters that he’s absorbed. In terms of raw power, though, none of the other forms even come close. He’s so powerful that Vegeta agrees to set aside his Saiyan pride and fuse together with Goku, as even he can see that there’s no other way to stop Buuhan. Vegito doesn’t end up beating the villain either, although this is more down to his desire to save his loved ones.

1 Good Buu

Anime Debut: The Evil of Men | Manga Debut: The Creature of Wrath

images/news/2024/7/6/dragon-ball-strongest-buu-form-best-version-majin_7.jpg

When it comes to Dragon Ball Z, most consider Good Buu to be the weakest form of Buu. However, thanks to the ridiculous power creep in Dragon Ball Super, he eventually ends up becoming the very strongest Buu form. He completely dominates Basil in the Universe Survival Saga and reaches a level comparable to Goku’s when training for the Tournament of Power. Good Buu also plays a pivotal role throughout the fight against Moro in the Dragon Ball Super manga; once again demonstrating how much more powerful he’s become since the end of Z.
