Highlights
- Fusion in Dragon Ball introduced powerful characters like Gogeta who combine warriors’ strengths for ultimate power.
- Gogeta debuted in DBZ: Fusion Reborn and made his canon appearance in DBS: Broly movie in 2018, wowing fans with his abilities.
- Gogeta’s strength as a fighter comes from combining Goku’s talents with Vegeta’s strategic mind, making him one of the series’ strongest characters.
The concept of fusion has been a mainstay of the Dragon Ball franchise. From the early days of Z, the series has had characters merge with others in various ways, such as absorption or even assimilating others into themselves. Saiyans were a race that didn’t have any biological way to fuse, so the series introduced the Potara Earrings and the Fusion Dance, the latter of which was the reason behind the formation of Gogeta.
By performing specific actions in full synchronization, 2 warriors can merge into a singularly powerful character who not only benefits from the strength of their constituents, but also gains a further boost in strength. Though he was made canon far after his initial debut into the franchise, Gogeta is one of the strongest characters in Dragon Ball who can even use God Ki to transform into his Super Saiyan Blue form.

Gogeta has been a fan-favorite character who has been a part of the franchise for about two decades! First shown in the Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn movie, he proved to be Goku and Vegeta’s last-ditch effort to defeat the villainous Janemba. Though his appearance was brief, Gogeta engraved his name in the hearts of fans with his cool personality, amazing design, and fantastic move set.
His second appearance was another non-canon one, though this time, it was in Dragon Ball GT. As Goku and Vegeta battled against Omega Shenron, they realized they posed absolutely no threat to the Shadow Dragon, despite being in their Super Saiyan 4 form. This prompts them to fuse into Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, a much-beloved character who claimed the title of strongest character in the series for around 20 years!
We are Gogeta! Kakarot and Vegeta have merged together to take Broly down!
Eventually, Gogeta was finally made canon in the incredible Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie that came out in 2018. Here, Goku and Vegeta battled against an enemy that they couldn’t even match up to in their Super Saiyan Blue forms, making them put their differences aside and fuse into Gogeta. The Saiyan worked very similarly to Vegito Blue in the sense that he, too, could use the abilities of both warriors and could go Super Saiyan Blue as well.
The initial part of the fight had Gogeta take on Broly in both his normal and Super Saiyan forms, proving just how strong he was. However, to make sure that the job would be done as quickly as possible, Gogeta transformed into Super Saiyan Blue and, in doing so, proceeded to utterly dominate Broly. Broly didn’t land a single hit after Gogeta realized his strongest form, and he would’ve killed Broly if the latter hadn’t been transported off the planet due to the Dragon Balls.
Gogeta’s Personality
Despite his very first appearance in the franchise being one that showed him as incredibly stern and stoic, his showings since then have been far more lighthearted. Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta seemed to be the most immature of them all, whereas canon Gogeta retains some of his earliest counterpart’s seriousness, but is far more lighthearted and relaxed.
Using the Potara it was Vegito, wasn’t it? Ok then, how about… Now hold on a second, having a name would definitely make us sound much cooler. This time, it’ll be… Gokuja… Vekujo… How about Gogeta?!
This is because he takes more after Goku’s personality, one that is far more curious and enjoys the fight to push himself, unlike Vegeta and Vegito, who are cocky and take pleasure in bullying their opponents. Gogeta’s similarities to Goku are also show in the mercy he shows to his opponents, since he proceeds to save Frieza from being demolished by Broly despite their troubled past.
The Strength of Gogeta Blue
One of the franchise’s strongest characters
Gogeta Blue, much like Vegito Blue, is the merger of the strongest warriors in Universe 7, making him an incredibly adept fighter. Taking Goku’s talent, skills, and techniques and putting them with Vegeta’s strategic mind, brute strength, and oppressive power makes Gogeta the most complete fighter in the entire series next to Vegito. His performance against Broly showed as much, since the Legendary Super Saiyan was unable to harm his opponent.
Gogeta’s fight against Broly showed some of the most impressive feats in the entire series, where he was able to break through a dimensional barrier, forcing him and Broly into a strange realm where even they didn’t know where they were. Moreover, the rest of the fight was Gogeta mauling Broly. Even though Broly was far superior to Goku and Vegeta Blue in his regular Super Saiyan form, his even stronger ‘Legendary Super Saiyan’ form wasn’t able to even land a single punch on Gogeta Blue!
Notable Techniques
- Stardust Fall: An unending wave of Ki that covers a very wide area. Each blast is incredibly powerful and Gogeta releases hundreds of them.
- Meteor Explosion: An incredibly powerful rush attack that Gogeta uses to incapacitate his opponent, causing an explosion from seemingly within them.
- Ultimate/Full-Force Kamehameha: Perhaps the strongest iteration of the Kamehameha that fans have ever seen, since it would have easily decimated Broly if he hadn’t been saved.
- Stardust Breaked: A unique move that has been a part of Gogeta’s arsenal since his initial appearance. It causes an incredible amount of damage and can completely erase characters who have evil in their hearts.
Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
