In the Hashira training arc, Zenitsu’s demeanour undergoes a remarkable shift after he receives a letter. In the following days, he isolates himself and becomes wholeheartedly dedicated towards his training. He alludes to doing something that he needs to do at any cost. It turns out that his mentor Jigoro Kuwajima has committed seppuku after his former disciple Kaigaku became a member of the Twelve Kizuki upon coming across Upper Rank One, Kokushibo during a mission.

Until you die, you haven’t lost. You may rub your face in the dirt. You may lose your home or drink muddy water, people may curse you for stealing money. But as long as you live on, you can win someday. You will win. I have moved forward with that belief.

Zenitsu was heartbroken by Jigoro’s passing as he had been the only person who had shown faith in him from a young age and trained him to become the fighter he is today. Kaigaku used to bully Zenitsu and looked down upon him. There was animosity between the two for a long time, and after he became the reason for their mentor’s death, Zenitsu could no longer forgive his former competitor. The complicated history that the duo share sets the stage for their confrontation in the Infinity Castle. Zenitsu Agatsuma is the only demon slayer who will take on an Upper-Rank alone in the upcoming arc, which means he can achieve the Hashira status if he emerges victorious.

Insect Hashira Shinobu Kocho maintains a cheerful and happy exterior facade when she is in public view, but deep down, she is seething with the desire for revenge. Born in a privileged family, she once lived a content life with her parents and older sister, Kanae. But everything was taken away from her one unfortunate day when the Kocho household was attacked by a demon. The sisters lost their parents in the tragic incident, but they motivated themselves to join the Demon Slayer Corps and went on to become Hashiras.

The Kocho sisters naturally relied on each other, and their bonds only strengthened as they faced more trials and tribulations. Sadly, when it appeared that they had finally overcome the trauma of losing their parents, things took a tragic turn. One night, Kanae Kocho suddenly found herself face-to-face with the Upper-Rank Two of the Twelve Kizuki. Since she was by herself, the power dynamics were heavily skewed in favour of Doma and her fate was sealed.

It seems you are mistaken. Heaven and hell do not exist in this world. Those things don’t exist at all. They’re made up. Just human conceits. The reality is that even those who live upright and good lives meet with misfortune while the wicked act as they please.

Kanae fought bravely against the Upper Rank Two but sustained fatal injuries in the process. But as the sun rose, Doma decided to flee to protect himself, which saved her from being devoured alive. Shinobu soon arrived at the scene, and Kanae died in her arms. Before passing away, Kanae insisted that her younger sister should leave the Demon Slayer Corps. However, Shinobu was overcome by a desire for revenge to the point that she ignored Kanae’s advice and vowed to make Doma pay for his crimes. As the demon slayers end up in the Infinity Castle, she will find the Upper-Rank Two and confront him for taking his sister’s life.

In the Mugen Train arc, Tanjiro and his friends meet Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku. They are tasked with the responsibility of investigating the mysterious disappearances of several demon slayers and civilians on the train in the past few months. It turns out that the train is controlled by Lower Rank One of the Twelve Kizuki, who uses his powerful Blood Demon Art to induce deep slumber in his victims before taking their lives. Although Rengoku and his comrades succeed in killing Enmu, they are shocked by the unexpected arrival of the Upper-Rank Three at the scene.

Tanjiro is already injured, and Zenitsu is not skilled enough to confront someone as powerful as Akaza. Realizing that he needs to step up, Rengoku decides to take on the dangerous demon all by himself. He fights bravely and impresses the Upper-Rank Three with his fighting prowess and never-say-die attitude. However, Akaza proves to be an overwhelmingly powerful combatant for the Flame Hashira. Rengoku sustains fatal injuries in the ensuing battle and dies soon afterward.

You misunderstand Tanjiro. I only despise the weak. I only spit on weaklings. Yes, weaklings make me sick. It is the law of nature that they are weeded out.

Tanjiro and Zenitsu witness Rengoku’s brave struggle against an overpowering adversary and are moved to tears by his sacrifice. This incident fills Tanjiro with the determination to find Akaza and confront him eventually. In the Infinity Castle, he and the Water Hashira Giyu Tomioka find themselves up against the Upper-Rank Three. Rengoku’s murder drives them to fight passionately and avenge their fallen comrade with unyielding perseverance. Meanwhile, Akaza recalls some painful memories from his past life that dramatically shift his worldview.

Kokushibo Vs Muichiro Tokito, Genya Shinazugawa, Gyomei Himejima, and Genya Shinazugawa

The Upper-Rank One Faces His Biggest Challenge After Yoriichi

Upper-Rank One Kokushibo commands the respect of some of the most dangerous demons in existence. He is unlike any other Muzan’s subordinates as he uses a breathing style and has refined his swordsmanship for centuries. Apart from his brother Yoriichi, there is probably no other swordsman in the Demon Slayer universe that comes close to his talent and skill. But despite his frightening powers, Kokushibo hasn’t fought even once until now. This changes in the Infinity Castle arc as he single-handedly takes on Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito, Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima, Wind Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa, and Genya Shinazugawa.

Although the Upper-Rank One will face some of the most talented demon slayers of the past few centuries, he will still overwhelm them without breaking a sweat. The fight that will ensue will also uncover the centuries-old pain and regrets that Kokushibo has been carrying deep down. However, getting closer to his human side will also lead to serious repercussions for the Upper-Rank One.
