It showed Tanjiro and the rest of the Demon Slayer Corps undertake grueling training under the supervision of the Hashira in order to become more powerful than they had ever been before, with each of the most decorated Slayers taking a look at a specific aspect of combat.

The last episode of this season of Demon Slayer was the best of them all, quickly shooting up to the list of the highest-rated anime episodes of all time! Not only did this episode show the culmination of all the training and hard work that the Corps has put in, but it also sets the board for how the final arc of the story is going to play out, so let’s go over the final arc of Demons Slayer’s 4th season!

Muzan Arrives

The episode picks off with Muzan finally arriving at the Ubuyashiki Estate due to the efforts of Upper Moon 4, Nakime, who had her little eyeballs follow people around for quite a while. The entire build-up to this is very ominous and rather drawn out, as the camera follows Muzan’s long walk to the footsteps of the room of Ubuyashiki himself, where he sees his rival in a rather pitiful state.

Here, the two converse, as Ubuyashiki tells his enemy that despite being given a diagnosis to die in a few days, his unwavering hatred and desire to defeat Muzan allowed him to stay alive for over a year. The nature of the Ubuyashiki curse is also revealed here, in that Muzan is actually a distant ancestor to the family. His depravity and ascension to demonhood caused the curse to inflict every generation of the family with a terrible sickness, one which will only go away after the defeat of the Demon King.

After speaking a little more, Ubuyashiki finally uncovers Muzan’s true goal, as well as that of the nature of demons. Muzan is an immortal being but one who cannot overcome sunlight, so he wishes to take over Nezuko and assimilate her into himself, finally conquering the sun. Other than this, it is revealed that if Muzan were to die, all other demons would cease to exist at the same time.

As their conversation draws to a close, Muzan walks closer to his rival and raises his hand to kill him where he lays. However, after imparting some final words of wisdom about how the Corps will only grow stronger from his death, Ubuyashiki unexpectedly blows up his entire estate! Though he and much of his family perished in this explosion, it served as the perfect trap for Muzan, delaying his regeneration as much as possible and essentially making him a sitting duck for the eventual arrival of the Hashira.

The Final Battle Begins!

Just as he regains his power, Muzan is suddenly stuck in place by a mysterious Blood Demon Art, which is revealed to have belonged to a man he turned into a demon back in the very first season. This attack is used by Tamayo to keep the Demon King in place while she plunges her hand into his stomach, revealing that she has injected him with a special medicine used to turn demons back into humans!

As Muzan grabs her head and proceeds to mock and almost kill her, Tamayo suddenly calls out for the Stone Hashira, Gyomei Himejima! Gyomei then makes his long-awaited combat debut and more than proves his standing as the strongest Hashira of them all, using his massive flail to destroy Muzan’s head completely. However, what would kill any other demon doesn’t work on Muzan, as he simply regenerates his entire head back.

In this world, there is only one demon whose blood flowing in its veins has the power to turn humans in to demons.

A brief flashback reveals the only way to defeat Muzan is to subject him to sunlight, making this a brutal fight of endurance. Gyomei then continues to prove his incredible strength as Muzan fires out a powerful attack which the Stone Hashira is able to destroy and protect himself from at blistering speeds, just as the remaining Hashira and Tanjiro make their way to the scene of the battle.

As all those present realize that this is, in fact, the Demon King, they unsheathe their swords and realize the most powerful forms of their Breathing Styles as they rush in to end him once and for all at the same time. However, everyone realizes far too late that they have fallen into Muzan’s trap, as the entire Demon Slayer Corps is simultaneously plunged into the heart of the Infinity Castle!
