In a now continuing trend of promotional material leaking the appearances new characters in Captain America: Brave New World, another McDonald’s tie-in features a photo showcasing new looks at two heroes. One of them is the easily recognizable Sam Wilson, now Captain America. The other is the first real reveal of the new live-action Falcon, Joaquin Torres.

Captain America: Brave New World is set to be the fourth entry in the solo Captain America series, directed by MCU newcomer Julius Onah. Malcolm Spellman, writer of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, is writing for Brave New World as well, which directly follows the Disney+ show’s events. Sam Wilson, after being offered the duty and responsibility of Captain America by Steve Rogers at the end of Avengers:Endgame, struggles with assuming the mantle and all that it entails for much of Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s screen-time. At the end of the show, Wilson finally assumes the role. He combined his old Falcon suit’s wings with the Captain America style and shield, offering a new take on the heroic identity. With WIlson becoming Captain America, the role of Falcon is left for someone else to step into his shoes.

In a Reddit post by user u/SpeedForce2022, fans are shown a complete look at this new Falcon for the first time. While we get a brief, albeit cut-off, look at Sam Wilson (upper torso only), showcasing the Captain America star on his chest and his iconic red visor, fans get a complete look at the suit of new Falcon Joaquin Torres, played by Danny Ramirez (Top Gun: Maverick). Torres is decked out in a green, tactical flight suit, complete with a green helmet and a yellow visor. He also wears brown pants and sports the signature metal wings synonymous with Falcon.

While how he makes his debut in the MCU is unknown, Joaquin Torres has a fascinating origin story in the comics. Kidnapped by a group of supervillains, Torres, an idealistic young man who helped Mexican immigrants around the border, was experimented on and turned into a hybrid of falcon/human. Because the DNA used to mutate Torres was vampiric, he was granted regenerative abilities to keep his condition from regressing. After being saved by Captain America, he joins him in fighting crime. While this supernatural origin could tie-in neatly with the upcoming Blade reboot, considering the more realistic nature of the suit belonging to the live-action Torres, it’s safe to say that the character’s MCU debut will eschew the paranormal comic origin story in favor of something more grounded.

Unfortunately, Falcon’s live-action redesign reminds fans of another favorite MCU character. The tactical green and yellow color scheme and flight suit is heavily reminiscent of Vulture’s own suit, the villain played by Michael Keaton in Spider-Man: Homecoming. On the same Reddit post, many users commented on the similarity. Hopefully, enough is done in the final version of Captain America: Brave New World to differentiate the two and give the newest Falcon his own iconography to stand on.
