One of the most interesting relationships to develop over the course of Bosch and Bosch: Legacy has been that of LAPD detective turned private investigator, Harry Bosch and defense attorney turned DA hopeful, Honey Chandler. Due to the remarkable success of the Bosch universe, the characters’ relationship has been given time to develop and flourish. Bosch: Legacy seasons 1 and 2 saw them officially work together on cases, but it’s up in the air whether this working relationship continues in Bosch: Legacy season 3, with Bosch drifting towards the dark side, while Chandler switches her focus onto seeking justice.
The dynamic has shifted exponentially over the last decade on both shows, with the relationship between Bosch and Chandler going from sworn enemies in Bosch season 1, with Chandler bringing a case against Bosch and the LAPD, to a begrudging respect for each other’s work as the series progressed, which has evolved into a productive working relationship in Bosch: Legacy, after Bosch left the LAPD to work in the private sector.
How has Bosch and Chandler’s relationship evolved over the years?
From arch enemies to best of frenemies, to trusted allies, Bosch and Chandler’s relationship has gone from strength to strength over the course of the last decade in Bosch and its spin-off series, Bosch: Legacy. Harry Bosch used to hate defense attorneys as he viewed them as the ones standing in the way of justice. But as Bosch got to know Honey Chandler, he gained a certain level of respect for her particular profession.
Bosch’s own belief in the justice system has shifted over the years, and this was highlighted in Bosch: Legacy season 2 when Bosch worked with Chandler on the case of David Foster, who was accused of murdering Lexi Parks. During Bosch’s investigation, he discovered Foster was actually innocent, and the real murderers were corrupt cops, Ellis and Long.
Both Bosch and Chandler have become disillusioned with the justice system as time has gone on, and the big incident that first saw them align with one another, was the case of Carl Rogers, who was responsible for the attempted assassination on Chandler in Bosch season 7, only to walk away from court as a free man. Bosch and Chandler made sure he paid the ultimate price for his crimes, and that involved some illegal activities on their part, but it was all in the name of seeking justice.
Will Bosch work with Chandler if she becomes DA in Season 3?

Bosch and Chandler have a lot of dirt on each other heading into Bosch: Legacy season 3, after their involvement in Carl Rogers’ demise. However, the characters are on their own fascinating trajectories that could either see them working closer than ever with each other, or drifting back to how their relationship began, as sworn enemies.
At the end of Bosch: Legacy season 2, it was implied that Bosch might’ve ordered the hit on Kurt Dockweiler, which would be a significant shift towards the dark side for the former law-abiding detective. In contrast to this, Honey Chandler is done with her career as a defense attorney, and wants to be in control of seeking real justice in the DA’s office, after she witnessed the prosecutorial misconduct in the David Foster murder case.
So, if Bosch is heading for the dark side and Chandler is moving in the other direction, this could cause some tension between the pair, as their roles reverse significantly. Bosch has already stated his lack of interest in working for Chandler if she becomes DA, but this doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t.
DA investigators mostly deliver subpoenas and drive witnesses to court. It’s not my bag.
Bosch and Chandler are a formidable partnership, and the series had been building towards them working together for many years, with Bosch: Legacy seeing the creative team deliver on this promise. It would be strange if they didn’t continue to work together in Bosch: Legacy season 3, so fully expect Bosch to change his mind about being a DA investigator. However, if he does come to work for Chandler, he’ll want a more significant role as opposed to just delivering subpoenas and dealing with witnesses.
When Bosch left the LAPD under a cloud, it resulted in a loss of status for the character, which has led him down a dark path since. However, if Bosch was to work for Chandler in the DA’s office, this might go a long way to restoring his status. Titus Welliver commented on the possibility of Bosch working with Chandler if she became DA, in an interview with Parade:
He’s very, very isolated, and I think in some ways he’s more isolated now than ever because he doesn’t have that constant interaction and that energy that was there all the time for a homicide detective. But I think he’s doing well.
And, obviously, there’s a hint at the idea that Honey would enlist his aid should she become the DA, that she would say, “Hey, why don’t you come on?”
Whether this hint of Bosch and Chandler working together again in Bosch: Legacy season 3 comes to fruition remains to be seen, but either way, there are bound to be the usual entertaining interactions between the characters moving forward.
