One of Netflix’s most expensive movies, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F sees Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) causing havoc during an investigation in his hometown of Detroit. After the carnage, Axel gets a call from his old friend, Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) to inform him that his estranged daughter, Jane (Taylour Paige), is in trouble. Jane is now a defense lawyer and has taken on the controversial case of Sam Enriquez (Damien Diaz), who is facing trial for killing a cop. Sam insists that he is innocent and, despite being coerced into peddling drugs for his criminal uncle, the cop he supposedly killed was actually corrupt. He claims that he and the cop were ambushed by a black SUV, and he woke up with the murder weapon on his person.

Axel heads back to Beverly Hills to help his daughter, who has become a target for assassination, and soon finds himself in trouble with the law, and is brought into the police station, where he meets Detective Bobby Abbott (Joseph Gordon Levitt). The pair form an uneasy alliance as they investigate the case Jane is involved in. Turns out, Billy Rosewood was also looking into the case and has been kidnapped, and Axel must get his daughter to help him, while also mending fences with her, if Axel is going to find his old friend and figure out the conspiracy.

Bobby is tailing Axel and Jane around Beverly Hills, when they are ambushed by cartel thugs. A gun fight ensues, and Bobby shoots two of the goons dead, saving Axel and Jane. Back at the police station, Axel and Bobby try to convince Chief Taggart (John Ashton) that something is clearly not right with this case. Taggart reveals that Billy was on the case, and quit the force when Taggart backed Captain Cade Grant (Kevin Bacon) instead of him when he prevented the cartel thugs from going to prison for unknown reasons. Taggart suspends Bobby and recommends that Axel leave Beverly Hills.

Neither of these things happen, and Axel and Bobby continue to investigate the case, but end up being arrested by Grant and his team. Axel is in an interview room with Grant, and when he is left on his own, he gets out of his handcuffs and makes it look like he has escaped through a vent in the room. However, when Grant returns and looks in the vent, Axel is still in the room and sucker punches Grant and escapes.

Axel frees Bobby and the pair head to the roof of the police station, where a helicopter is situated. Having been trained as a helicopter pilot, Bobby is pressured by Axel into renewing his skills to help them escape. They take a ride across Los Angeles, but Grants tries to shoot them down, and they crash on a posh golf course.

Jane tries to call Axel, but before she gets through, she is kidnapped by some of Grant’s henchmen. Elsewhere, Axel and Bobby rescue Billy, and the three men interrupt a drug shipment, and jump into a large truck and head to rescue Jane, after Axel receives a call from Grant, to tell him he is holding Jane hostage. Axel, Bobby, and Billy arrive at the mansion where Jane is being held.

Axel, Bobby and Billy storm the mansion and a gunfight ensues, and Taggart turns up on the scene to save Billy just as he runs out of bullets. Meanwhile, Axel confronts Grant, but the villain distracts him as one of his thugs jumps him. Jane shoots the thug, and when Grant tries to shoot Jane, Axel takes a bullet for her, and Bobby turns up and shoots Grant in the head.

Axel Foley is recovering in hospital after being shot, and is visited by his daughter, Jane, but she discovers he has left to get some real food at a diner across the road. They agree to work on their relationship, as she helps him back to the hospital. The movie ends a few days later: Billy Rosewood and John Taggart are keeping Axel Foley under surveillance outside the hospital to make sure he doesn’t escape. However, Axel ends up making his way to their car without them spotting him, and he convinces the pair to go get a steak with him.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley is now available to stream on Netflix.
