The show follows a high schooler named Hotaru Hinase whose struggles to come to terms with the complexities of romance and love eventually push her away from it. She ends up assuming that she will probably never experience it and accepts her life the way it is.
Hotaru’s pessimistic worldview is challenged when an act of compassion and kindness dramatically changes her life for the better. The naive high schooler’s courageous act of opening herself to new experiences and accepting change fuels her growth and leads to life-changing experiences. A Condition Called Love, in that sense, is an inspiring and memorable story that not only entertains but also has a lot to teach.
5 The Dangers in My Heart
Two Clueless Middle Schoolers Fall in Love
Kyoutarou Ichikawa may look like an ordinary middle schooler, but deep down, he harbors naive yet dangerous intentions for his classmate Anna Yamada. For some inexplicable reason, he wants to take her life and can’t help but secretly dream of someday seeing her struggling for her last breaths. But before his dangerous desires eventually unfold in real life, Ichikawa’s resolve is severely challenged as he gets to see Yamada’s true self. While spending time in the library, he crosses paths with her and learns that she is just an innocent and airheaded girl who struggles to read the room and harbors no ill will against anyone.
As Yamada and Ichikawa become friends, the latter can’t help but develop an over-protective and caring attitude towards the former. Soon the one-sided rivalry turns into romance as circumstances push the duo closer to each other. The Dangers in My Heart (also known as Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu) is a hilarious and heartwarming story of two middle schoolers who unexpectedly fall in love and learn to navigate the challenges of adolescence together. The anime is an ideal watch for the fans of A Condition Called Love as it typically focuses on the life-changing lessons learned by two clueless adolescents after they develop feelings for one another, just like Hotaru and Hananoi.
4 My Dress-Up Darling
A Heartwarming Story of Unlikely Lovers
Unlike his high school peers, Wakana Gojou is more interested in mastering the complicated craft of creating hina dolls after getting inspired by his grandfather. In order to avoid getting bullied by his peers for it, he likes to keep his hobby a secret. But his ordinary life takes a dramatic turn when Marin Kitagawa, a popular girl with an outgoing personality, learns about his unusual skill. Her discovery leads to the confession that she loves to cosplay. Despite having barely anything in common, Marin and Wakana join hands to work on cosplay outfits.

3 Toradora!
A Fun Show That Focuses on the Romance of Two Conflicting Characters
Taiga Aisaka may seem like an adorable and innocent teenager, but she is notorious for her feisty and short-tempered personality. Meanwhile, Ryuuji Takasu may look intimidating, but he is a kind student who prefers to stay aloof and is often busy with housework. When the eccentric duo cross paths with one another, they end up discovering each other’s concealed side. They also learn that they have a crush on each other’s best friends. In order to help one another, the two of them end up joining hands, not knowing that their efforts unintentionally bring them closer in unexpected ways.

2 Kaguya-sama: Love is War
A Hilarious Romance Anime That Packs Great Entertainment Value
Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya are students of the well-known Shuchiin Academy. They are ranked the best students in the entire nation and are, by nature, very competitive. Although the duo are not dating, they are regarded by others as the perfect match. Interestingly, Miyuki is the president of the student council, while Kaguya serves as his deputy. Therefore, the two of them work closely with one another and cannot afford to ignore each other.
Over time Shirogane and Shinomiya develop feelings for each other, but their pride and arrogance make the prospect of confessing their emotions seem like an impossible task. In their twisted worldview, whoever confessed first would feel like a loser. Naturally, this leads to an uproarious and entertaining emotional tug-of-war that brings them even closer together.
Kaguya-sama: Love is War is a hilarious romantic series that is arguably the greatest anime of its genre. Fans of A Condition Called Love who are looking for a show that explores the complexities of love and romance will likely enjoy Kaguya and Miyuki’s story.
1 Komi Can’t Communicate
A Love Story of Two Eccentric Characters
Regarded as the school’s Madonna, Shouko Komi is arguably the most popular girl in her age group. Students are desperate to befriend her, not knowing that she struggles with crippling anxiety and has a hard time communicating her thoughts due to a disorder. Hitohito Tadano is an ordinary boy in her class who desires to avoid trouble at any cost and live a low-key life. Interestingly, he is the first person who notices that Komi has a communication disorder and extends a helping hand. Tadano eventually becomes her first friend and soon learns that Shouko plans to make a hundred friends by the time she graduates.
OLM’s Komi Can’t Communicate (also known as Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu) focuses on the romance that flourishes as the titular protagonist befriends Tadano and engages in a long struggle against her anxious nature to become more outgoing and friendly. The dynamic between the two is somewhat similar to the bond shared by Hananoi and Hotaru from A Condition Called Love.
