In many fantasy anime, slimes are often some of the weakest enemies that the heroes can fight while on their adventure. It's a convention that has existed ever since games like Dragon Quest popularized it, and with so many fantasy anime taking cues from fantasy JRPGs, it's fairly common for slimes to be weak there, too.
Despite this stereotype being very common, that doesn't mean that every slime in anime is weak. Some anime take the alternate route and make slimes incredibly powerful, whether it be by taking advantage of their unique physiology or by giving them unique powers along with their natural abilities. Here are some of the most powerful slimes in anime.
6 Suu
A Child-like Slime With Incredible Absorption Powers
Despite coming from a relatively peaceful romantic comedy series, Suu is an incredibly powerful slime girl representing a host of the monster's unique abilities. With her body made entirely of liquid, Suu can stick to a variety of surfaces and morph her body into whatever she likes.
Her most notable strength lies in her ability to absorb liquids into her body, which gives her the ability to increase her size depending on how much water she's absorbed. She can also absorb poisons and diseases of all kinds without being affected by them, though it can affect her disposition. Certain chemicals can even cause Suu to become gigantic, such as when she absorbed some experimental fertilizer.
5 Melona
A Seductive Shapeshifter Using Her Body To Her Advantage
Melona is a slime and a servant of the Swamp Witch, the overarching antagonist of the Queen's Blade franchise. A childish prankster who can change her appearance and form as she wishes, Melona is skilled in both information gathering and assassination, though she can be a dangerous opponent if she is challenged or provoked.
Melona's slime abilities mostly focus on her ability to change form, whether it be to transform into other fighters or change parts of her body into different weapons. She uses her body's unique qualities to her advantage in battle, making her quite a tricky opponent. She can also absorb and take in smaller life forms into her body, increasing her strength and wisdom permanently. This means Melona has the ability to be one of the most powerful beings in the series.
4 Solution Epsilon
Slime Battle Maid And Steadfast Protector
Solution Epsilon is a member of the Pleiades, a group of battle maids tasked with protecting the headquarters of the guild Ainz Ooal Gown. Solution Epsilon is the sole Slime member of the Pleiades, sporting a cruel, sadistic, and manipulative personality that is nevertheless loyal to the orders tasked to her.
Solution's slime physiology, which makes her resistant to most physical attacks, is only a part of what makes this particular member of the Pleiades so powerful. Solution also has plenty of abilities and skills derived from her classes as an Assassin and Poison Maker. With her ability to create and use poisons, meld into the darkness, and absorb anyone who touches her, Solution Epsilon is a fearsome fighter.
3 Hans The Deadly Poison Slime
The Putrid General Of The Demon King
Hans the Deadly Poison Slime is one of the Demon King's Generals and a particularly powerful one at that. Kazuma and his party encounter him by chance while vacationing in the town of Arcanretia, where they find him attempting to poison the local hot springs.
Hans' abilities are largely poison-based, due to having a body composed of deadly poisons. Because of that, he is difficult to damage due to most objects dissolving on contact, and being absorbed by his body is instant death. When not in slime form, Hans can also transform into the image of someone he has eaten. Despite being a slime, Hans is easily one of the most formidable enemies Kazuma and his party encounter while on their various adventures.
2 Smiley
A Deadly Result Of Zoan Experimentation
Smiley is the pet of Caesar Clown, a collection of poisonous gases given life by the Sala-Sala Fruit (Axolotl Model). Smiley was kept locked up until Caesar decided to use it to fight against the Straw Hats who were causing havoc in his laboratory.
Having originally been a collection of poisonous gas, Smiley does not have much of a mind. It moves around erratically, only following orders from Caesar Clown. However, it is so massive and its poisons are so deadly that even just walking caused plenty of death and destruction all over Punk Hazard alone. It continued to cause problems even after its death, as the gases left behind were converted into a more potent poison thanks to the candy Caesar had it eat.
1 Rimuru Tempest
The Omnipotent Leader Of The Nation Of Monsters
Satoru Mikami was once an ordinary salaryman in Japan, but his reincarnation into a new world found him in the form of a slime. Taking the name Rimuru Tempest, he began exploring the world while slowly making use of the abilities given to him when he arrived.
Many of Rimuru's abilities originate from his unique skill Predator, which allows him to absorb, analyze, and mimic or recreate whatever he eats with his slime body. While the power itself is not related to his slime physiology, his status as a slime certainly does help him make use of the ability well by being able to absorb objects easily. Through this power, Rimuru has become a mighty Demon Lord on par with some of the most powerful beings in the Central World, making him truly mighty despite being a small slime.
