6 Things We Hope To See In Season 2 Of Amazon’s Fallout

Amazon’s live-action Fallout adaptation is doing well cryptically. So much so that the show seems like it is getting a second season. That’s good news because there are a lot of unanswered questions left on the table that would assuredly drive fans mad if this was a one-and-done situation.

As far as live-action game adaptations go, Fallout is pretty faithful. It shows a lot of creatures like Radroaches and ghouls plus it does a good job with costumes from the Vault jumpsuits to the Power Armor worn by The Brotherhood of Steel. Still, there are more things fans would like to see in season two from the games besides answering questions.

WARNING! Spoilers ahead!

6 More Kyle MacLachlan Please

The Villain Needs More Stage Time

Kyle MacLachlan plays Hank MacLean in the show who gets kidnapped in episode one and doesn’t show back up until the finale. That seems like a waste of a good actor, but thankfully he does survive the conflict in the end which means he is set up to return. Unfortunately, he turns out to sort of be a villain who assumedly killed his wife or at least let her turn into a ghoul. Lucy’s goal of saving her “righteous” father turned out to be a bust.

The final shot of season one ends with Hank in a suit of Power Armor from The Brotherhood of Steel looking out at New Vegas. Hopefully, this means he will have more of a role in season two or at least will get more screen time whether that’s in the present or in the past through flashbacks.

5 More Self-Contained Episodes

One-Off Stories With Weirdos

One of the reasons why players like the Fallout series so much is the world-building. The main plot lines are often skipped to spend time with the side quest characters and weirdos met along the main path. Lucy gets a few fun encounters in the show like that sand farmer who can’t make water or that radio DJ that Thaddeus encounters.

The show excels at its character writing and the funny bits always land too. It would be fun if there were more self-contained quest-like plots in season two. Lucy and Cooper could meet these characters on their way to New Vegas. The season could be split where one part focuses on the road and the other part centers on New Vegas, Lucy reuniting with her father, and Cooper finding his family.

4 Living It Up In New Vegas

The Debauchery Will Be Endless

One thing that the show lacked was a lot of scenes showcasing people living it up in the wasteland. The pre-war era flashbacks have a couple of moments of people living it up in luxury like the party at Cooper’s or even the birthday party. Those kids were having a blast eating cake, watching cartoons, and taking pictures with a cowboy.

One of the coolest parts of Fallout: New Vegas was visiting a town that had electricity which allowed NPCs to be more energetic. Life was good in New Vegas, so hopefully the same mentality will be transferred into the show’s version in season two. The wilder the better. It will be funny to see how Lucy reacts to her positive, yet cracked, outlook on life.

3 What’s Going On In The Rest Of The World?

From London To Tokyo

The entire Fallout series has taken place in different parts of the United States. The aforementioned Fallout: New Vegas is centralized around Nevada while Fallout 3 takes place in the D.C. area. There have been snippets throughout the series on the state of the world but none of the games have focused on a global outlook.

Fans have been dying to see other parts of the world since the franchise began in 1997. The show has the opportunity to check in on London or Tokyo to see what life is like outside of the United States. Is it better or worse? Players would undoubtedly love an entry set in these cities or elsewhere, but Amazon could at least dip their toe into the idea and give fans a taste.

2 More Monsters

The Wasteland Is A Terrifying Place

The TV series has some of the best special effects a game adaptation has ever received and that includes The Last of Us on Max. It uses a lot of practical effects mixed with CG which helps adds to the believability. For example, the Power Armor is real even though some of the inner workings are not. Better yet, there are a lot of creatures in the show from that aquatic abomination to the Yao Guai to the Rad Roaches.

There is even a Deathclaw skull in the final shot when Hank makes it to New Vegas. Season two should double down on the creature front to have a live Deathclaw in it. There has to be Super Mutants too to add another post-apocalyptic race besides ghouls.

1 More Tech

From Synths To Weapons

images/news/2024/4/13/amazons-fallout-season-2-things-want-to-see_6.jpg

The tech needs to be more prominent as well. The Power Armor and the airships are cool from The Brotherhood of Steel. The weaponry could have been more fantastical though. For example, there were no laser weapons in season one, and having Lucy turn her first victim into dust would be funny.

Where were the Synths, or were there Synths already in the show that will be revealed in season two? Fans may have thought Dr. Wilzig was a Synth robot once he told Lucy to cut off his head. Turns out he somehow just had implanted a cold fusion device into his brain. It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but the point is Amazon should allow the show writers to go wild with the tech in the next season.
