The two announcers from Yu Yu Hakusho’s Dark Tournament are ready for some bloody action in an adorable cosplay inspired by the classic anime series.

Created and modeled by prominent cosplayers Brandywine Cosplay and Funsized Cosplay, the Juri and Koto costumes present accurate recreations of the minor but hilarious characters, including the former’s fin-tipped blue tail and the latter’s fox-like furry ears.

Mangaka Yoshihiro Togashi serialized his Yu Yu Hakusho manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 1990 to July 1994, producing 175 individual chapters worth of content. The narrative follows teenage delinquent Yusuke Urameshi, who, after dying and coming back to life, becomes the Spirit Detective. His new position comes with the responsibility of protecting the Human World from evil demons and apparitions.

How Yu Yu Hakusho Introduced Juri and Koto to Fans

Fan-favorite characters Juri and Koto debuted during the Dark Tournament as announcers. The ‘Dark Tournament’ arc sees Yusuke forced to compete in a series of deadly battles after he draws the interest of the Toguro Brothers during a previous case. Luckily, he can team up with Kazuma Kuwabara — his boastful but supportive rival — a mysterious masked fighter and former adversaries-turned-allies Hiei and Kurama, two powerful demons.

Alongside other classics like Hiromu Arakawa’s Fullmetal Alchemist and Hiro Mashima’s Fairy Tail, Yu Yu Hakusho stands as one of the best-selling manga in history, with over 78 million copies sold across the globe. The series isn’t just a major financial success; it generally performed well with critics during its initial serialization. In fact, it won the shōnen category at the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1993.

The ’90s anime adaptation by studio Pierrot (Tokyo Ghoul) premiered in 1992. Towards the end of last year, Crunchyroll announced a special Blu-ray home release to celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary that includes never-before dubbed OVAs. Justin Cook (My Hero Academia) stars as Yusuke in the English dub of Yu Yu Hakusho alongside Christopher Sabat (Dragon Ball Z) as Kuwabara, John Burgmeier (Attack on Titan) as Kurama and Chuck Huber (Fullmetal Alchemist) as Hiei. Amber Cotton (Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan) and Jamie Lynn Marchi (Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious) bring Koto and Juri to life in the dub, respectively.

The English dubbed and subtitled versions of the Yu Yu Hakusho anime are available to stream on Crunchyroll and Hulu. VIZ Media distributes Togashi’s manga in North America.
