This Yona of the Dawn cosplayer has seemingly revived the fandom with a single cosplay.
Feeling that there weren’t a lot of Yona of the Dawn cosplays on TikTok, cosplayer Blanca (blanca_ack) decided to share some red-headed princess joy on the social media platform. From head to waist, the cosplayer looked every bit like the fierce princess, from her elegant and dangly yellow earrings to her pink gown with burgundy and red outer vest. For the final touch, Blanca pulled down the hood of her green cape to reveal her crimson-red shoulder-length hair.
Yona Fans Celebrated the Cosplay
Blanca is a massive Yona of the Dawn fan as they have cosplayed the Crown princess of the Kouka kingdom numerous times on their TikTok, but this video was the most popular by far, crossing over 650,000 views in just two days. The cosplay received praise from TikTok users, with one commenter saying, “Yona was an awesome character, and you totally ate her up.” Another expressed their enthusiasm by writing, “THIS IS LITERALLY THE BEST YONA COSPLAY I’VE EVER SEEN.” As it’s been over seven years since the anime adaptation ended, one fan rejoiced, “FINALLY THE FANDOM IS NOT DED.” Many commented that this was the first Yona cosplay they had seen, thus reaffirming Blanca’s initial notion.
Written and illustrated by Mizuho Kusanagi, Yona of the Dawn is an epic fantasy and romance manga that began serialization in Hana to Yume in August 2009. Set in the fictional nation called Kouka, divided into five Tribes, the story follows the princess of Kouka named Yona. As the princess, Yona has lived a pampered and lavish lifestyle behind the walls of the Crimson Dragon Castle, not knowing it’s a different story outside. On the night of her sixteenth birthday, Yona witnesses Soo-won, her first love, kill her father. Forced to flee the kingdom with Hak, her childhood best friend and bodyguard, Yona learns of a myth about the Crimson Dragon King and the four Dragon warriors who united the nation. Not knowing whether the myth holds any truth, she sets off on a journey to save her nation.
In October 2014, Yona of the Dawn received an anime adaptation by Studio Pierrot with Kazuhiro Yoneda directing before ending in March 2015. Composed by Kunihiko Ryo, the first opening song is an instrumental one called “Akatsuki no Yona,” with the second opening song, “Akatsuki no Hana,” sung by Cyntia. Between September 2015 to December 2016, Yona of the Dawn released three OVAs.
