DC’s Suicide Squad travels into a whole new world in a new anime project called Suicide Squad Isekai.
Previously, Warner Bros. Japan had teased a mysterious collaboration with animation studio Wit Studio (Spy x Family) for an isekai project. At Anime Expo 2023, during Wit Studio’s panel, the studio revealed DC’s Suicide Squad will reincarnate into another world in a new work called Suicide Squad Isekai. Eri Osada will direct the anime project with Tappei Nagatsuki (Re:ZERO — Starting Life in Another World) and Eiji Umehara (Vivy – Fluorite Eye’s Song) as the scriptwriters.
Suicide Squad Isekai released a new trailer, showing off Harley Quinn and the Joker’s new looks. Harley Quinn twirls about in her lair while the Joker is in his car as he drives into the night while serenading the city with his piano playing. The new world the two are in has dragons, monsters and knights. Amanda Waller and Deadshot will also appear in the anime. A new teaser visual, illustrated by 706z87″ title=”akira”>Akira Amano (Psycho-Pass), reveals Harley Quinn tearing a string of pearls from her neck, grinning with her tongue out.
Suicide Squad Isekai’s Notable Crew
Amano will also join the animation team as the draft character designer, with Naoto Hosoda (Digimon: The Movie and Magical Girl Site) as the main character designer. Kenichiro Suehiro (The Eminence in Shadow and Uncle from Another World) will compose the music for Suicide Squad Isekai. Amano confessed to being an enormous fan of Harley Quinn and said being a part of Suicide Squad Isekai is “an honor.” Amano said, “Eri Osada’s clear vision for Harley’s design made the process smoother than expected, and I enjoyed drawing her costume and muscles while imagining her action-packed adventures in the story.”
Warner Bros. Japan’s Shinya Tsurouoka noted the growing popularity of the isekai fantasy genre, where characters find themselves transported into a fantasy world. “What if DC characters such as Harley Quinn and The Joker rampages in Isekai? This is truly an outrageous anime project we deliver for a global audience from Japan,” Tsuruoka said. “I am thrilled to work with WIT STUDIO for this dream project which only Warner Bros. Japan could produce. Please look forward to the original story and DC characters’ blast in Isekai.”
No release date has been announced for Suicide Squad Isekai.
