Tsurune Season 2 Lets Loose a New Trailer Ahead of Its January Release

A beautiful new trailer gives viewers a glimpse of what the long-awaited second season of Kyoto Animation’s Tsurune has in store.

The trailer for Tsurune: The Linking Shot dropped at yesterday’s special event for the new season at the Togeki Cinema in Tokyo. Alongside spotlighting the characters and teasing some of the story’s emotional beats, the video showcases the opening theme song, “℃” by Luck Life.

The original light novel of the same name by Kotoko Ayana and Chinatsu Morimoto won the Special Judge’s Award in the Kyoto Animation Awards that year, resulting in the studio publishing Tsurune in December 2016. The studio went on to adapt the story into an anime series, which debuted all the way back in Oct. 2018. The narrative focuses on high school student Minato Narumiya as his childhood friends attempt to convince him to join their school’s archery club.

KyoAni Creative Crew Returns for Season 2

Several Kyoto Animation’s creative team members behind Tsurune’s first season have returned to bring The Linking Shot to life. Returning creatives include director Takuya Yamamura (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S), writer Michiko Yokote (You’re Under Arrest), character designer Miku Kadowaki (Free! -Drive to the Future-) and prop designer Hiroshi Karata (A Silent Voice). Masaru Yokoyama, who composed the music for the tie-in movie, Tsurune The Movie: The First Shot, is also contributing to the new season.

Tsurune Season 2 Features Familiar Voices

Moreover, many voice actors have confirmed that they are reprising their previous roles in The Linking Shot. Yūto Uemura (Bungo Stray Dogs) will once again star as Minato alongside Kensho Ono (BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense) as Shū Fujiwara, Shōgo Yano (The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed By Light) as Nanao Kisaragi and Kaito Ishikawa (My Hero Academia) as Kaito Onogi. The upcoming season introduces viewers to multiple new characters, including Kōshirō Fuwa, who will be voiced by Takayuki Kondō (The Prince of Tennis), and Tōma Higuchi, portrayed by Yūya Hirose (Tokyo Revengers).

Tsurune: The Linking Shot will premiere in January as part of the winter 2023 anime line-up alongside new series like Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill, Buddy Daddies and Ayakashi Triangle. In Japan, it will play on networks like Tokyo MX and BS11, and it will stream internationally on HIDIVE.

All 14 episodes of the first season of Tsurune are available on Crunchyroll. Tsurune the Movie: The First Shot is licensed by Sentai Filmworks.
