The following contains spoilers for the series finale of True Beauty, now available on the Webtoon platform.
One of the most popular series on the WEBTOON platform, True Beauty finally came to an end in its satisfying series finale. Premiering in August 2018, the rom-com concluded with Episode 223. While many fans are sad to see it finish, the True Beauty ending offers closure by resolving the series’ main plot and themes.
In the highly anticipated finale, Jugyeong and Suho return to the place where they first met as children. They go on a date to Latteworld while wearing high school uniforms, bringing fans back in time to the series’ beginning. The amusement park reminds Jugyeong of her childhood, where she was relentlessly bullied and forced into the haunted house because of her appearance. Without knowing each other at the time, the young Suho saved Jugyeong and guided her safely out of the haunted house while she was crying. When Jugyeong and Suho return as adults, she realizes that he’s always been by her side through her darkest moments.
Jugyeong Is Feeling Happy and Free in True Beauty’s Finale
Jugyeong is visibly happy and energetic throughout True Beauty’s finale. She admits she feels relaxed and relieved now that her bare face has been revealed to the world. Despite the dreaded event, this reveal becomes a blessing in disguise for Jugyeong, who no longer has to go through great lengths to hide her appearance. After struggling to juggle two different lives and personalities, she eventually realizes she is the same person with or without makeup.
During the amusement park date, Suho nervously waits for the right time to propose to Jugyeong and conclude their long romantic journey together. He nearly pops the question after she tells him she doesn’t know what she’d ever do without him in her life. However, she gets distracted by a parade, and he goes the entire amusement park date without getting the chance to propose.
Suho Picks the Perfect Moment to Propose to Jugyeong
After taking a shower back at home, Suho enters the living room to find a bare-faced Jugyeong laughing in her pajamas. He admires her beauty in the moment, reaffirming that he always loved her no matter her appearance. He suddenly proposes to her while she’s laying on the couch, creating a more casual yet heartwarming moment. Jugyeong excitedly says yes, but quickly questions why he chose to propose to her while she was dressed down in her comfortable clothes and natural appearance. This fitting conclusion to their romance proves that Jugyeong was always worthy of love in her naturally beautiful state.
While True Beauty is primarily a romance, Jugyeong’s relationship with her appearance and self-esteem is an overarching theme throughout the series. Her journey comes full circle in the finale, as she accepts her natural appearance and discovers what true beauty means to herself and others. Fortunately, fans who are sad that the series came to an end can take refuge in the spinoff series, currently dropping new episodes on Tuesdays in the Webtoons app. True Beauty also inspired a live action South Korean drama series of the same name that aired from December 2020 through February 2021.
True Beauty Vol. 1 is now available in print from WEBTOON Unscrolled, Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group’s new graphic novel imprint. Eight volumes are signed up, with Vol. 2 hitting bookshelves June 6, 2023.
