The popular isekai anime, That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime, is getting a third season.

As reported by Anime Corner, Studio Eight Bit announced the anime’s upcoming season with a new teaser visual of Hinata Sakaguchi facing off against Rimiru, the series’ main protagonist. Based on the Tensura light novel series written by Fuse and illustrated by Mitz Vah, the story, in standard isekai fashion, starts with an ordinary young adult dying in a tragic accident and getting reborn into a fantasy world with a brand-new body and special abilities. Season 3 currently does not have a projected release window.

Although the Tensura franchise began as a light novel series, Eight Bit’s popular anime adaptation specifically follows the manga version of the story, which is written by Fuse and illustrated by Taiki Kawakami. Kodansha began serializing the comic in its Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine in 2015. The story revolves around a 37-year-old man named Satoru Mikami who lives a mundane, lonely, and ultimately unsatisfying life. One day, he is murdered by a robber and reborn as a blue slime monster in a sword-and-sorcery fantasy world. After befriending the ‘Storm Dragon” Veldora, Mikami receives the name “Rimiru Tempest” and a new human form. After this fortunate turn of events, Rimiru sets forth to create a new nation where his new world’s inhabitants can live in peace, joy and comfort.

In addition to the upcoming third season, Eight Bit is also wrapping up the franchise’s first feature-length movie. An early film screening was recently held in Japan immediately before the Season 3 announcement. This film, titled That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime: Scarlet Bond, is directed by Yasuhito Kikuchi with an original story written by Tensura’s creator, Fuse. The plot revolves around a country called Raja, a small nation West of Tempest that is the origin of a mysterious power known only as “Queen.” As this power continues to mystify the world’s inhabitants, Rimiru Tempest meets an Ogre named Hiiro, one of the last remaining survivors of his race. The film debuts in Japan on Nov. 25. Crunchyroll will distribute the film theatrically in every major global territory except Asia in early 2023.

That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime is available to stream on Crunchyroll. The Tensura light novels are available in English from Yen Press, while Kawakami’s manga adaptation is available in English from Kodansha US.
