The following contains spoilers for Episode 1 of The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World, “The Strongest Exorcist,” now streaming on Crunchyroll.
The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World’s first episode was released on Jan. 7, 2023. The series is based on Kiichi Kosuzu’s light novel series, which was later adapted into a manga. Both of these series are still in the works, leaving plenty of room for many new anime seasons.
The story follows Haruyoshi Kuga, a renowned exorcist, who has just been betrayed and is passing away. In his final breaths, he uses a reincarnation spell and is born as Seika Lamprogue, the youngest son of a strong family of mages. However, despite his family’s abilities and his past life, Seika doesn’t seem to radiate any magical power.
Seika Finds His Strength
Even though Seika Lamprogue’s body doesn’t possess any magical abilities, he becomes aware that he carries plenty of spiritual energy. With his past life’s knowledge and the energy within him, Seika becomes strong in no time. The first episode shows Seika at ages seven, 11 and 12 as he familiarizes himself with his spiritual energy and the people around him. The middle son, Gly, treats Seika with disrespect from the second that viewers are introduced to him. Gly makes the intentions behind his sour feelings toward Seika obvious because of Seika’s position as a member of the Lemprogue family, without magical abilities and the son of a mistress.
The Lamprogue brothers are soon faced with a dilemma as a large monster appears. Gly immediately leaves the scene to hide, and Seika faces the creature head-on and defeats it. How the two brothers approached the situation with their first monster is likely to make an impact on their relationship throughout the rest of the season.
Even though Seika has already made an enemy of his brother, he has also managed to make allies. In his past life, Seika was able to seal powerful ayakashi that he defeated and was able to use them as allies in battle. He now attempts to bring the weakest of the ayakashi out, the Kudagitsune named Yuki. Seika is shocked to see the appearance of Yuki as a young girl now instead of an adult woman, and Yuki decides to stay in Seika’s plane with him in her animal form. Another ally that Seika makes is one of the maids at the Lamprogue home named Yifa. As he gets to know Yifa more, Seika discovers that she may have magical abilities of her own.
While there has only been one episode of The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World released so far, fans have been able to learn a lot about what’s to come of Seika’s life as he practices his magic in the new world, with numerous allies and enemies making sudden appearances. The first episode ended with people discovering Seika’s true potential — the second is likely to dive more into the magic of the world that Seika and others possess.
