What is The Dreaming Boy Is a Realist?

The Dreaming Boy Is a Realist started as a light novel series written by Okemaru and illustrated by Saba Mizore. It was initially serialized on the self-publishing site, Shosetsuka ni Naro in December 2018. The rom-com revolves around a teenage boy named Wataru Sojou who has a deep infatuation with his classmate, Aika Natsukawa. Although he never approaches her in real life, he continuously daydreams about when they will both confess their feelings for one another.

However, one day Wataru is hit with the realization that he and Aika may not work as a couple, and he starts distancing himself from her. This causes Aika, who secretly returns his feelings, a great deal of stress and confusion as she wonders what changed. In the future, the two of them attempt to navigate the relationship, despite each believing their love is unrequited.

Studio Gokumi (A-Channel) and AXsiZ (Kinmoza the Movie – Thank You!) collaborated to produce The Dreaming Boy Is a Realist. Kazuomi Koga, who has previously served as an Episode Director for Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World, directed the series. Michiko Yokote (Bleach, Gintama) was in charge of Series Composition. Masaru Koseki (Kinmoza the Movie – Thank You!) served as the show’s Character Designer, retooling Mizore’s original designs for animation. Ryohei Sataka (Classroom of the Elite II) composed the series’ music with production assistance from Studio Pony Canyon (Attack on Titan.)

In addition to the subtitled works joining HIDIVE’s lineup, the company has also acquired the rights to several Dubcasts slated to debut later this year. The Dangers in My Heart Season 1 and KAIJI: Ultimate Survivor Third Arc will have their respective English Dubs premiere this summer. The English version of The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 will join the lineup of dub casts for Fall 2023, making it the first of HIDIVE’s simulcast series to be available both subbed and dubbed.
