A talented Studio Ghibli fan has created a sugary and sweet version of the Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro.
A picture of the impressive 3D cookie was uploaded on Reddit by user ItsSundayBunday, whose baking skills and love of all things Studio Ghibli are showcased all over their account. Beyond their Catbus confection, which some commentators have described as “Too cute to eat,” there are pictures of a Calcifer cake, Totoro-shaped onigiri and brownie cookies decorated with the soot sprites from Spirited Away.

Studio Ghibli Fans Are a Creative Bunch
Surprisingly, ItsSundayBunday isn’t the only fan who has created edible and delectable treats based on the whimsical worlds of Studio Ghibli movies. Another Reddit user, freshestofpeaches, crafted a delicious-looking tart that replicated No-Face’s monstrous feast from Spirited Away and a video posted to the platform details the delicate creation of a molded sugar version of the fiery spirit from Howl’s Moving Castle.
Of course, not all Studio Ghibli fan art comes in the form of confectionery and pastry. For example, a pixel artist by the name of Amour recently reimagined 1989’s Kiki’s Delivery Service as a cozy role-playing video game, sharing a series of images that a player would see if such a game actually existed.
New Official Content From Studio Ghibli
Studio Ghibli fans have more to be excited about than just new fan-made content, culinary or otherwise. Most notably, the studio finally announced a premiere date for the film How Do You Live?, which will be the final movie from legendary and beloved filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki (probably). How Do You Live? will debut in Japanese theaters on July 14, 2023; at the time of writing, an international release window has not been revealed. Based on the novel of the same name by Yoshino Genzaburo, Miyazaki came out of retirement (again) to make the movie.
The project entered production in 2016 and has proven to be a massive undertaking for Studio Ghibli. At a press conference in October 2022, producer Toshio Suzuki explained the differences between the older movies and How Do You Live?, stating, “back when we were making My Neighbor Totoro, we only had eight animators. Totoro we made in eight months. [For] the current film that Hayao Miyazaki is working on, we have 60 animators, but we are only able to come up with one minute of animation in a month.”
Many of Studio Ghibli’s iconic movies, including My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and Kiki’s Delivery Service, are available through Amazon Prime Video.
