A dedicated Spy x Family fan took their DIY cosplay to the next level, much to their mother’s frustration.
In a recently posted TikTok from Thánh Cosplay, the content creator is seen distracting his mom as he sneaks around the house gathering materials for a truly impressive Loid costume. From a paint-coated suit to a pistol made from cheap wood and plastic bottles, Thánh utilizes unlikely materials to cobble together an anime-accurate outfit that looks as professional as even the most expensively crafted Spy x Family cosplays. However, it appears the one person unimpressed by Thánh’s antics is his mother, who proceeds to chase her son out of the house with gardening tools.
Anime Fans Everywhere Love Spy x Family
For a relatively recent series, with Tatsuya Endo’s manga only beginning a few years ago in 2019, Spy x Family has become a massive success story, particularly in the cosplay community. While the manga recently featured in the New York Times Bestsellers list and the anime from CloverWorks and Wit Studio received multiple nominations at this year’s Crunchyroll Awards, Spy x Family has also connected with fans on a personal level. The Forger family has inspired some wonderfully unique cosplays, with a TikTok workout enthusiast’s buff Anya and a ditzy Anya skit from cosplayers sakurazakili highlighting the multitude of different ways fans engage with even just a single character from the series.
Fans are currently awaiting the second season of the Spy x Family anime, which is set to air sometime this year, as well as an original animated film also set for a 2023 release. Expectations are set high for these two premieres after such a positive audience and critical response to Season 1, but there are also areas where fans and critics will be looking for improvement from the series, like Yor Forger’s somewhat neglected character development. TOHO Animation dropped a teaser for Season 2 and the new movie earlier this month, but an exact release date is yet to be confirmed for either at the time of writing.
While fans await word on the anime, they can catch up on the ongoing Spy x Family manga, which just published its 9th volume in English through North American distributor Viz Media. The first season of the anime is also available to stream on Crunchyroll and Hulu.
