Spirit Fingers Webtoon Fans are NOT Happy Over Rumored K-Drama Adaptation

Rumors of a possible K-drama adaptation for the WEBTOON Spirit Fingers have upset the comic’s fanbase.

Han Kyeong-Chal’s Spirit Fingers launched on WEBTOON back in 2015 and went on to become one of the author’s most popular series. In February, reports about a 12-episode K-drama adaptation starring Park Ji-hu started circulating online. Shortly thereafter, Spirit Fingers fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment over the fact that the comic deserves a proper anime adaptation rather than a live-action drama series.

Spirit Fingers Fans React to the K-Drama News

Spirit Fingers is a slice-of-life romantic comedy about a shy teenage girl named Amy who befriends an eccentric group of artists who help her escape her shell and become her own person. Despite the fact that K-dramas often adapt stories from the slice-of-life genre, many Spirit Fingers fans believe that the Webtoon series would work much better as an anime. For example, One Twitter user called @xtiah_o wrote that “out of anything it deserved an anime the most. As a drama it’ll just look silly. It’s supposed to be showed in the most dynamic medium. It would have been perfect.”

@Xtiah_o is not alone in their disappointment. Another Twitter user called Cara (studious era) (or @horneebutcute) wrote that “Streets are saying we get a Spirit Finger Kdrama…WE WANTED AN ANIME WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS?” Accompanying this post, presumably to emphasize the user’s frustration, is a Hunger Games GIF showing Katniss angrily accosting Peeta. A Twitter user called @ishuika agreed, writing that Spirit Fingers and ASLFUA are two webtoons that should never receive drama adaptations. Soonkki’s ASLFUA, also known as After School Lessons for Unripe Apples, is another slice-of-life webtoon comic.

At the time of writing, the rumored K-drama adaptation of Spirit Fingers has no projected release window. Park Ji-hu, the actress who is reportedly playing the role of Amy (renamed Song Woo-yeon) had their acting debut in the 2016 South Korean fantasy film Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned. However, they became internationally known through their starring role as Nam On-jo in the 2022 Netflix series, All of Us are Dead. This post-apocalyptic series revolves around a high school that becomes the focal point of a nationwide zombie virus outbreak. Nam On-jo, along with her fellow classmates, must find a way out of the school before they all become infected. Park Ji-hu also starred in a South Korean TV adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s novel Little Women.

Spirit Fingers is available on WEBTOON.
