Naruto: Sasuke’s Story–The Uchiha and the Heavenly Stardust: The Manga will end with its second volume.
As reported by Anime News Network, the spinoff manga, also titled Sasuke Retsuden, will conclude in the Summer of 2023. The series serves as the adaptation of Jun Esaka’s 2019 light novel of the same name. In October 2022, Viz Media began translating and serializing Sasuke Retsuden into English. The manga takes place after the series final of Naruto Shippuden and focuses on the tumultuous love story between Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno.
Boruto Adapted Sasuke’s Story Into the Anime
In December 2022, a leak claimed that Boruto: Naruto Next Generations would adapt the spinoff manga into its storyline. The sequel series later aired two episodes based on Sasuke Retsuden, Episode 282, “Sasuke Retsuden: Infiltration,” and Episode 283, “Sasuke Retsuden: Star Lines.” The spinoff manga bridges the timeline gap between Shippuden and Boruto. Additionally, Boruto previously traveled back in time with Sasuke and met the younger version of characters like Naruto, Hinata Hyuga and Rock Lee.
In Sasuke Retsuden, the broody Uchiha must break into the Astronomy Research Institute in search of a cure for Naruto’s mysterious illness by tracing the history of the Sage of Six Paths. Sakura and their former sensei Kakashi Hataki, also assist Sasuke on his mission. In the original Naruto series, Sasuke acted as a villain thirsting for revenge after the death of his entire clan at the hands of his older brother Itachi. However, the fan-favorite character’s unbreakable bond with Naruto eventually leads him back to the Hidden Leaf Village.
In October 2022, the Naruto franchise celebrated its anniversary with many festivities. Naruto creator Kishimoto posted special artwork on social media to mark the momentous occasion. “Anime’s 20th anniversary!! Sending everyone a “Thank you” through the Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu!!!,” Kishimoto wrote. The images included Naruto in his Six Paths form and Sasuke’s emotional reunion with his older brother Itachi.
In addition to Kishimoto, Studio Pierrot reanimated dozens of scenes from the original Naruto series and Shippuden to form a 10-minute video set to various themes throughout the years. The compilation features many pivotal moments in the anime, like Naruto and Sasuke’s first major battle and the face-off between Gaara and Rock Lee at the Chunin Exams. The Naruto studio also posted a compilation of several characters doing the iconic ninja run, which involves sprinting with one’s arms behind their back.
Sasuke’s Story — The Uchiha and the Heavenly Stardust manga is available to read on the VIZ Manga app. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is available to stream on Hulu.
