Michiru Kaiou, aka Sailor Neptune, is brought to life in a stunning Sailor Moon cosplay that shows off her unique weapon.
Posted on Reddit by Tauride Cosplay, the costume recreates the Outer Sailor Guardian’s navy blue battle outfit. It also features the character’s signature sea-green hair and powerful mirror, which Sailor Neptune uses to channel her attacks.
About Michiru, a.k.a. Sailor Neptune
Naoko Takeuchi’s Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon formally introduced Michiru in the third main story arc of the manga alongside her lover and partner, Sailor Uranus/Haruka Tenou. As Sailor Neptune, she uses her powers associated with the ocean to defend the solar system from external threats. A fan-favorite character, particularly among members of the LGBTQIA+ community, the Outer Sailor Guardian has inspired plenty of fan works; beyond Tauride Cosplay’s interpretation, professional model Tami Yuurei shared her take on Michiru that perfectly captures her sophisticated if somewhat cold personality.
Of course, Sailor Neptune isn’t the only Pretty Guardian to ignite the imaginations of fans. Earlier this year, an imaginative costume maker combined Sailor Moon with none other than Marvel’s Moon Knight. While the costume strongly resembles the Fist of Khonshu’s nearly all-white uniform, it also features Usagi’s iconic hairstyle and moon tiara. Moreover, Sailor Moon mega-fan Jahara Jayde has crafted multiple extraordinaire cosplays for the series, including ones for Sailors Saturn, Venus and Jupiter.
Sailor Moon Fans Can Look Forward to the Upcoming Film Cosmos
Sailor Moon fans have more to be excited about than just impressive instances of cosplay. Most notably, the next two films in the franchise — the Sailor Moon Cosmos duology — will premiere next month in Japan. Adapting the events of the “Shadow Galactica” arc from the manga, the movies will see Sailor Moon and her allies attempt to stop the evils of Sailor Galaxia and save the universe once and for all. Both parts of Sailor Moon Cosmos serve as direct sequels to 2021’s Sailor Moon Eternal.
Multiple trailers have given viewers glimpses of the many new characters Sailor Moon Cosmos will introduce. These characters include the Sailor Starlights — a powerful warrior trio who form a popular boy band as part of their civilian identities. Ayane Sakura (My Hero Academia) will voice Sailor Star Healer alongside Saori Hayami (86) as Sailor Star Maker and Marina Inoue (Attack on Titan) as Sailor Star Fighter. Another trailer teases the transformation sequences and attacks of Sailor Galaxia’s minions.
Sailor Moon Eternal is available on Netflix, and Kodansha Comics distributes the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon manga in North America.
