Throughout January, Yen Press will launch several new manga for the English-speaking world.
Eight new manga series are coming to Yen Press this month, including Oshi No Ko, a romance manga from Kaguya-sama: Love is War creator Aka Akasaka. Other highlights include a shojo manga titled Honey Lemon Soda, a four-panel slice-of-life manga called Doomsday With My Dog, and an isekai titled, Apparently, Disillusioned Adventurers Will Save the World.
About the Upcoming Manga Releases
Oshi no Ko debuted in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump magazine in April 2020. Written by Aka Akasaka with art by Mengo Yokoyari, this series is a reincarnation story involving a gynecologist named Gorou and a pop idol named Ai, who goes to Gorou for help delivering her child. Due to a mysterious outside influence, Gorou dies and is reborn as Aquamarine Hoshino, who also happens to be Ai’s newborn son. Now a firsthand witness to the difficulties of celebrity life, Gorou tries to protect Ai’s happiness in his strange new role. Oshi no Ko Vol. 1 goes on sale starting Jan. 17.
Mayu Murata’s Honey Lemon Soda debuted in Shueisha’s Ribon magazine in December 2015. The series revolves around a shy high-school girl named Uka Ishimori that is cruelly nicknamed “Stone” by her classmates due to her tendency to freeze in the presence of other people. After enduring a lifetime of bullying, Uka tries to overcome this issue. One day, she meets Kai, a popular boy with lemon-colored hair who emboldens Uka with his ability to speak his mind. As time passes, she eventually falls in love with him. Honey Lemon Soda Vol. 1 also hits shelves on Jan. 17.
First appearing as a Twitter web manga, Yu Ishihara’s Doomsday With My Dog began serialization on Kadokawa’s online manga magazine, ComicWalker, in March 2018. This four-panel comic series chronicles the daily life of the last human on earth, who spends her days exploring the post-apocalyptic landscape with her talking dog, Haru. DLE adapted the series as original net animation (ONA), which debuted on YouTube in August 2022. Doomsday With My Dog Vol. 1 goes on sale starting Jan. 17.
Apparently, Disillusioned Adventurers Will Save the World was originally a light novel series written by Shinta Fuji with illustrations by Susumu Kuroi. The manga adaptation features illustrations by Masaki Kawakami. The series’ plot revolves around an experienced adventurer named Nick that has grown weary with his life. After getting kicked out of his party and dumped by his girlfriend, Nick joins forces with another group of adventurers that have also grown cynical and jaded towards the adventuring profession. A TV anime adaptation of the series from Geek Toys debuted earlier this month. Vol. 1 of the manga hits shelves starting Jan. 17.
