Ai Hoshino from Oshi no Ko receives the happy ending anime fans believe she deserves in this fan-made ad for Minute Burger.
A YouTuber, Victor Coelho, animated a commercial for the fast-food chain restaurant in the Philipines, based on the 90-minute premier of Oshi no Ko. In the original anime version, Episode 1 of Oshi no Ko ends with the shocking murder of Ai by a crazed fan, who later takes his own life after realizing the magnitude of his actions. In the fan-made ad, the idol stalker gets reimagined as a food delivery employee for Minute Burger, who delivers to Ai after her successful live performance. The less-than-10-second ad ends with Ai giving a stylized smug look.
Minute Burger Featured the Oshi no Ko-Themed Fan-Made Ad
On Facebook, Minute Burger acknowledged the fan-made ad, while Oshi no Ko fans left amusing comments in the reply section. Previously, anime fans have made a variety of funny ads for their favorite burger joint. Past parodies include Chainsaw Man, Mazinger Z and Genshin Impact. As seen on its social media timeline, Minute Burger also celebrates its anime-cosplaying customers.
Although the story of Oshi no Ko wouldn’t begin without the tragic end of Ai, the fan-made Minute Burger ad isn’t actually too far off from what was originally envisioned for the series. Aka Akasaka, the creator of Oshi no Ko and Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, mentioned in a 2021 interview that Ai initially lived in the early version of the story and would be involved in the entertainment industry with her kids, Aqua and Ruby Hoshino. However, Akasaka killed off Ai — literally — out of fear she would steal the spotlight from her children, who the creator intended to be the dual protagonists of the series.
Oshi no Ko’s Dark Storylines
Oshi no Ko sheds a dark light on the entertainment industry while examining the complicated relationship between talent and fans. Many instances in the series found inspiration from real-life events, such as the death of Ai being based on the Stabbing of Mayu Tomita, a horrific assault that happened on May 21, 2016. Episode 6 of the anime TV series came under fire for basing its storyline on the tragic suicide of pro-wrestler Hana Kimura. Kyoko Kimura, the mother of Hana Kimura, wasn’t happy with how Oshi no Ko used elements of her daughter’s life as fuel for its story about the dangers of cyberbullying.
Oshi no Ko is currently streaming on HIDIVE. The manga is written by Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. Yen Press is handling the English release of the manga.
