This cosplay captures the essence of One Piece’s Weevil and gives him a stunning new genderswapped look.
Cosplayer Kappy_w recently took to Reddit to show off her unique rendition of Edward Weevil, the self-proclaimed son of the Strongest Man in the World, Edward “Whitebeard” Newgate. Kappy’s creative cosplay features a pair of overalls held up by chains with Weevil’s personal Jolly Roger across the front. She also uses a large blonde wig to present a more organized and maintained version of Weevil’s bushy, flowing hair. Iconic pieces of Weevil’s look also make it in through makeup, including his scars, nose plaster and perpetually runny nostrils.
There was plenty of support in the comments for her reinterpretation of the character. One commenter called out the work on her teeth by stating, “the teeth are an excellent touch,” with another calling attention to her makeup, “awesome job with the scars.” Finally, a few reactors noted the rarity of people cosplaying Weevil in the first place, with one Reddit user saying, “I don’t think I’ve seen a Weevil cosplay, ever. Well done.” The whole comments section is full of similar compliments and support.
Changing up Weevil’s Look
Kappy herself took to the comments to highlight some of her choices, with one major change being Weevil’s mustache, which she uniquely fashioned into a pair of extravagant eyebrows. “Before anyone ask where is the mustache, I change it into eyebrows, voilà.” In addition to this post, Kappy provided a link to her Instagram page (@kappy_w), which features a post showing off the awesome costume with a few more pictures and even progress shots of her makeup process. This page also features many more One Piece cosplays, such as Sanji, Chopper and Pappag, as well as non-One Piece characters, such as Emily from Corpse Bride and Inouske from Demon Slayer.
One Piece is one of the most beloved anime franchises of all time and has been one of the main pillars of Weekly Shōnen Jump for decades. The series follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, The Straw Hat Pirates, as they search for the treasure of the legendary Pirate, Gold Roger — a treasure otherwise known as the “One Piece.”
The anime is available to stream in Japanese on Crunchyroll, with the One Piece Netflix live-action adaptation setting sail sometime in 2023.
