One Piece Fans Love Uta
Uta, the central character of One Piece Film: Red, has amassed a large, enthusiastic fanbase since the film’s release. Viewers have flocked to sites like TikTok, Reddit, and Twitter to demonstrate their love of the character through cosplay, fanart, and other creative ventures. The popular cosplayer Glory Lamothe even went so far as to handmake Uta’s colorful, oversized jacket. The character also supersedes Luffy as the main star of Film: Red’s advertising; back in October, a Halloween-themed version of Uta did a solo takeover of the digital signage at Shibuya Station. Uta also starred in a six-episode YouTube miniseries titled “Uta’s Diary,” leading up to Film: Red’s release.
The plot of One Piece Film: Red begins when Luffy and his fellow Straw Hat Pirates journey to the island of Elegia to see the famous diva Uta live in concert. Once there, they learn that she is not just a brilliant performer but that she is also Luffy’s childhood friend and the daughter of the infamous pirate captain, Red-Haired Shanks. Unlike her father, Uta seeks a world free from conflict and wishes to use her music to create an “era of happiness for all.” Although her intentions are noble, they eventually attract the attention of Shanks, who doesn’t share Uta’s ideals.
