One Piece Genderswapped Rob Lucci Cosplay Featuring Hattori Will Steal Fans’ Hearts

The mass-murdering Rob Lucci receives a feminine makeover in a new gender-bending One Piece cosplay.

Fabricated and uploaded on Reddit by the incredibly talented Gia Isabella, the cosplay actually features two different versions of the Zoan Devil Fruit user. The first one recreates the character’s white suit with a purple flower that he wears as a member of CP0, and the second shows off the dangerous assassin’s leopard form. The first costume notably features the inclusion of Hattori, Lucci’s pigeon companion, leading one commentator to state that the cosplay isn’t actually of Lucci; instead, it’s one of “Hattori featuring his perch.”

One Piece and Genderswapped Cosplays

The merciless CP0 member isn’t the only notable villain from One Piece to receive a recent genderswapped cosplay. For example, costume-maker extraordinaire Kappy_w shared their unique take on Edward Weevil, the self-proclaimed son of the Strongest Man in the World, Edward “Whitebeard” Newgate. While the cosplayer doesn’t fully capture Weevil’s sheer size, the expressions and poses in the images go a long way in selling the pirate’s whiny personality.

Moreover, TheLoneliestExpat showed off their genderswapped cosplay of the Desert King, Sir Crocodile, which strongly resembles official artwork by One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda. Crocodile is at the center of one of the series’ most popular and interesting theories; many fans speculate that the leader of Baroque Works and former Warlord of the Sea is actually a transgender man and gave birth to none other than the story’s fighting- and meat-obsessed protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy. Proponents of this theory use everything from Crocodile’s connections to the leader of the Okama Kingdom, Emporio Ivankov, to his actions during the Summit War to Oda’s aforementioned artwork to support the idea.

One Piece’s Place as a Bestseller

The One Piece manga debuted in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1997, and the ongoing series now includes well over 1,000 individual chapters. The plot follows Luffy and his colorful pirate crew as they sail across the Grand Line in search of the titular hidden treasure. Oda’s masterpiece currently stands as the best-selling manga in history, with over 516 million copies in circulation globally.

One Piece has a significant amount of gender diversity and queerness featured worldwide and within its characters. Beyond Ivankov and the other members of the Okama Kingdom, other prominent examples include Kikunojo, a transgender swordswoman from the country of Wano, and Yamato, the transgender son of Kaido of the Beasts.

VIZ Media distributes the One Piece manga in North America.
