Christmas is not the only holiday Uta is set to celebrate. Ado, who provides Uta’s singing voice, is scheduled to commemorate the New Year in a performance through a 3D avatar of her One Piece character in NHK’s 73rd Kōhaku Uta Gassen (“Red and White Song Contest”) on New Year’s Eve. Uta also hinted that “many announcements” will be made at the performance.

Created by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece is an ongoing manga series that revolves around Monkey D. Luffy, who receives the power to stretch his body like rubber after unwittingly consuming a mysterious Devil Fruit. With his loyal pirate crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy embarks on a journey to the Grand Line to locate the coveted “One Piece,” a lost treasure that was once in the possession of deceased King of the Pirates, Gol D. Roger, and become the next King of the Pirates himself.

With more 516.5 million copies in circulation around the globe, One Piece has shattered records to become the best-selling manga series of all time and the best-selling comic series printed in book volume. Due to its massive success, the manga series has produced many theatrical films, live-action remakes, video games, spinoffs and a television anime series that is still airing today after its start in 1999. One Piece Film: Red is the fifteenth feature film the franchise has spawned and has become its highest-selling and highest-earning movie to date. It follows the Straw Hat Pirates as they attend the famous singer Uta concert, whom Luffy has known since childhood. The gang soon finds themselves in a tight spot, however, when Uta ensnares them a dream world through her power of song. Thus begins a race against time as Luffy and his friends band together to escape their mysterious trap.

One Piece Film: Red is now showing in theaters. The One Piece television anime is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
