A talented One Piece fan has transported the head of Baroque Works into the world of 3D.
The animation, which was created by a former employee of Riot Games and Blizzard Entertainment who goes by the username Leslie, shows Crocodile smoking his iconic cigar, while the corner of his head transforms into sand, highlighting his powerful Logia Devil Fruit abilities. Crocodile serves as the primary antagonist for One Piece’s Arabasta Arc, during which he almost manages to kill protagonist Monkey D. Luffy. He makes notable appearances in multiple other storylines, including the Impel Down and Marineford Arcs, causing many fans to believe Crocodile has greater story significance. One prominent theory actually speculates that the former Warlord is none other than Luffy’s mother.
The wildly popular One Piece franchise began in 1997 when mangaka Eiichiro Oda first published his beloved series in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump. Since then, the still-ongoing series has produced well-over 1,000 individual chapters. The narrative focuses on Luffy, a young pirate captain with a rubber body and a dream of becoming the next King of the Pirates. As he adventures across the Grand Line in search of the titular hidden treasure, Luffy gathers a colorful crew of characters that includes a directionally-challenged swordsman, a talking reindeer who is also a doctor and an archeologist that can sprout additional limbs at will.
One Piece’s Popularity Continues to Grow
With over 516 million copies in circulation globally, One Piece stands as the best-selling manga series of all time, and it has spawned an equally popular anime series as well as a myriad of tie-in video games, movies, theme park attractions and books. The story’s popularity means One Piece is a very common inspiration for fan-made content. Beyond Leslie’s 3D animation of Crocodile, other recent examples include a rocking cosplay of Uta — the main antagonist of the latest movie, One Piece Film: Red — and a crossover piece of fan art that sees characters from Tite Kubo’s Bleach transported to the world of One Piece.
Oda’s One Piece manga is distributed in North America and the United Kingdom by VIZ Media and in Australia by Madman Entertainment.
