A member of One Piece’s Worst Generation is brought to life in a spot-on recreation.
Uploaded on Reddit and created by cosgojaseggi1, the Capone “Gang” Bege cosplay showcases a very accurate interpretation of the mafia don-turned-pirate; hints of his Paramecia-type Devil Fruit, which basically makes Bege a miniature fortress, can be seen throughout the costume. The cosplayer previously posted an equally impressive take on Marshall D. Teach (aka Blackbeard).
Briefly introduced during the Sabaody Archipelago Arc, Bege and his Fire Tank Pirates become antagonists-turned-temporary allies during the Whole Cake Island Arc. Over the course of the story’s two-year time skip, the captain becomes a subordinate of Yonko Charlotte Linlin and even marries her daughter, Chiffon. His most up-to-date bounty stands at 350,000,000 beli.
One Piece Fans Flex Their Cosplay Creativity
Bege isn’t the only notorious pirate from One Piece who has recently ignited fans’ imagination. For example, two former Warlords of Sea inspired creative cosplays; Instagram-user Katerina shared their accurate take on the Snake Princess, Boa Hancock, and Reddit-user TheLoneliestExpat gave none other than the Desert King, Sir Crocodile, a feminine makeover. The latter greatly resembles official artwork by One Piece creator, Eiichiro Oda.
The ongoing One Piece manga first appeared in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1997, and both it and its anime adaptation have over 1,000 individual chapters/episodes. The narrative follows protagonist Monkey D. Luffy — another member of the Worst Generation — as he and his crew adventure across the Grand Line and pursue his dream of becoming the next King of the Pirates. Along the way, the Straw Hat Pirates encounter a myriad dangerous (but often wacky) foes, but many of them eventually become Luffy’s ally, temporary or otherwise, much like Bege.
Oda’s masterpiece stands as the undisputed best-selling manga of all time with over 516 million copies sold around the world. This incredible level of popularity has spawned not just cosplay and other types of fan-made content, but also multiple adaptations across other medium. Beyond the manga and anime, the One Piece multimedia franchise includes theatrical films, video games, light novel, guidebooks and even a live-action series. Netflix’s One Piece, which will star Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, is expected to debut sometime this year. A promotional poster for the live-action show spotlights the Straw Hats’ first pirate ship, the Going Merry.
VIZ Media distributes the One Piece manga in North America, while the anime adaptation by Toei Animation is available to stream on Crunchyroll, Netflix and Hulu.
