The following contains spoilers for My Hero Academia Season 6, Episode 9, “Katsuki Bakugo: Rising”, now streaming on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu.

In one of the most intense battles of Season 6 of My Hero Academia, Deku awakens the seventh user of One for All’s Quirk just seconds before Shigaraki uses his Quirk to finish everyone off.

As revealed by Anime News Centre on Facebook, Deku unlocks the seventh user’s Quirk, and it’s none other than Nana Shimura’s — All Might’s mentor and Shigaraki’s grandmother. Nana Shimura’s Quirk, Float, allows the user to levitate in the air, and it’s specifically because of that ability that gives Deku enough of an edge to be able to fight Shigaraki in midair battles. As shown in the screen capture, Deku uses a combination of Blackwhip and Float to pull his friends and Shigaraki into the air, thereby saving them from certain death.

As a whole, My Hero Academia is known for its fierce, action-packed fight scenes, and Season 6 has certainly set the stage for one of the biggest clash yet. Still, this season has also been an emotionally gripping one, with fans having to bid farewell to many of their favorites. Helmed by directors Kenji Nagasaki and Masahiro Mukai, Season 6 covers the “Paranormal Liberation War” arc and premiered on Oct. 1. The season will run for two consecutive cours.

Season 6 Wasn’t Without Controversy

After the fifth season concluded with the League of Villains merging with the Meta Liberation Army to create the Paranormal Liberation Front with Shigaraki leading the charge, Season 6 now follows the inevitable confrontation between the Paranormal Liberation Front and the heroes. Sung by Super Beaver, the season opens with the song “Hitamuki,” or Single-Minded in English. Kiro Akiyama sings “Sketch” for the ending theme, but due to Akiyama’s recent arrest for allegedly assaulting a female acquaintance, the official anime account has not confirmed whether the season will still play his song for the upcoming episodes.

Inspired by his love of American films and comics such as Spider-Man, Star Wars and X-Men, Kōhei Horikoshi used the basis of his previous one-shot My Hero to create My Hero Academia. Set in a society divided into superheroes and villains, those with superpowers known as Quirks and those without, the Quirkless Izuku Midoriya yearns to be a hero like his idol All Might. After All Might passes down his Quirk One for All to Midoriya, he attends U.A. High School with his childhood friend Katsuki Bakugo to train to become heroes.

Season 6 of My Hero Academia is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, Hulu and Funimation.
