U.A. student Shoto Todoroki shows off incredible power in a stunning genderswapped My Hero Academia cosplay.
Uploaded on Reddit, the Todoroki costume reimagines the upcoming hero with longer, braided hair and an elemental-themed battle dress. It also recreates core features of the character’s design, including his two-toned hair and facial scar, and references his powerful Quirk — Half Cold Half-Hot.
My Hero Academia’s Excellent Genderswapped Cosplays
Genderswapped cosplays have become fairly common within the My Hero Academia, and the youngest member of the Todoroki family isn’t the other fan favorite who has recently inspired feminine interpretations of masculine characters. For example, costume maker extraordinaire Brandywine Cosplay posted pictures of their genderswapped take on Eijiro Kirishima, aka Red Riot, embodying elegance and rock-hard strength. Similarly, another talented My Hero Academia fan shared images of their Lady Bakugo cosplay.
Of course, creative fans also strive to make manga- and anime-accurate interpretations of My Hero Academia’s many characters; YesYamCos fabricated a striking version of the Rabbit Hero Mirko’s white and purple combat leotard. The cosplayer perfectly captured the No. 5 Pro Hero’s personality by showing off their well-defined arms.
Kohei Horikoshi began publishing his ongoing series in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in July 2014, and it has become a staple of the modern pop-cultural landscape; with over 85 million copies in circulation around the world, My Hero Academia stands alongside classics like Hiromu Arakawa’s Fullmetal Alchemist and Yoshihiro Togashi’s Yu Yu Hakusho as one of the best-selling manga in history. The story, which has obviously resonated with many readers, follows high school student Izuku Midoriya as he pursues his goal of becoming a great hero like his idol, All Might, despite not being born with an innate superpower.
There have been several recent developments for the My Hero Academia franchise beyond just impressive instances of cosplay. Most notably, studio Pierrot’s anime adaptation has been confirmed for a seventh season. Moreover, an exciting collaboration between the series and the NBA has been announced. The special line of streetwear will include newly designed merchandise for prominent basketball teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Chicago Bulls, Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks that draw influence from Horikoshi’s story. According to Pascal Pakter, the president of the clothing company making the items, “My Hero Academia’s inspiring narrative of heroism, teamwork, and perseverance resonates with the core values of the NBA, making this collaboration a natural fit.”
The My Hero Academia anime is available on Hulu and Crunchyroll.
