A new Tokyo exhibition lets Mob Psycho 100 fans step into the world of Seasoning City.
The series took over the Ikebukuro PARCO shopping center with a huge installation featuring videos, artwork, and life-sized recreations of settings from the anime’s third season. The exhibition focuses on locations from the “Divine Tree Arc,” including an immersive model of the giant broccoli for guests to explore. Fans can also stop by Reigen’s office at Spirits and Such Consultations, which the installation constructs down to the last detail, including a working phone to solicit advice from the “Greatest Psychic of the 21st Century” himself.
Mob Psycho’s Exhibition Lets Fans Say Goodbye
While the exhibition’s focus is the penultimate arc of the series and Mob’s confrontation with Dimple, it also serves as a farewell to the anime, which concluded in Dec. 2022. The final installation of the Tokyo experience features a large illustration of the Divine Tree stenciled on a wall, where guests can leave their own personal goodbyes to Mob Psycho 100. In turn, fans receive their own parting words from Akio Otsuka, the voice of Dimple, as some of his most iconic lines echo through the exhibition.
The Mob Psycho 100 anime began in 2016, adapting the manga from One-Punch Man creators ONE. Studio Bones took charge of the animation, shepherding the anime through its six-year run, during which it racked up a number of awards, including “Best Animation” at the 2022 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. The series won over fans with its stunning visuals – all the more impressive given ONE’s comedic, rudimentary approach to the manga’s design – as well as its earnest, emotional storytelling, which bucked many of shonen’s most tired tropes.
About Mob Psycho 100
Mob Psycho 100 follows protagonist Shigeo Kageyama, nicknamed Mob, an average middle-schooler who just so happens to possess immense psychic power. Afraid of losing control of his abilities, Mob takes on a part-time job as an assistant to self-proclaimed spirit medium Arataka Reigen, a con man with no psychic power whatsoever. While Reigen initially takes advantage of Mob’s abilities for his own selfish gain, the two begin to form a positive relationship that sets the stage for Mob’s journey to self-acceptance.
Although the Ikebukuro PARCO exhibition has concluded its short-lived run, fans can still enjoy all three seasons of Mob Psycho 100 on Crunchyroll or read the manga available from Dark Horse Comics in North America.
