In a bloody sweet announcement, Yen Press revealed Narae Lee’s webcomic would soon receive a print edition.
Narae Lee’s webcomic Bloody Sweet, also known in Korea as Honey Blood, was licensed by Yen Press and will have a print release. Initially released in English by the webcomic publisher TappyToon, Bloody Sweet has since gotten picked up by digital publishers Manta, Pocket Comics, and Webnovel, among other comic apps, where it has well over 20 million cumulative reads.
The upcoming print run of Bloody Sweet won’t be the first time the manga was published. TappyToon previously ran successful Kickstarter campaigns to print Volumes 1 & 2 of the comic. The first campaign initially ran in 2017 for Volume 1, which fans of the series successfully funded in only ten days. Backers for the first campaign received digital wallpapers, Season 1 unlocked in the TappyToon app, a plastic folder and a tote bag, among other gifts. The second campaign, which ran in 2019, was intended to promote Volume 2. However, readers who missed out on the chance to get Volume 1 the first time around had the opportunity to pick it up alone or as part of a bundle. Backers received Bloody Sweet-themed stickers, washi tape, sticky notes and even a magnet. The highest-level supports were gifted a bookplate signed by Narae Lee.
Narae Lee Is an Award-winner
Narae Lee is a Korean artist who illustrated all the volumes of James Patterson’s original English language manga Maximum Ride: The Manga, which was her U.S. debut as an artist. Her original work Bloody Sweet was serialized over the course of two years and won the 2016 Korean Ministry of Culture’s Grand Prize in Comics. The webcomic went on to get translated for readers in Japan, China and France, becoming a popular top title across numerous comic platforms.
Bloody Sweet tells the story of the daughter of a shaman, Shin Naerim, who accidentally finds a magical cabinet inside an abandoned church after being bullied by her classmates. Inside the cabinet is a mysterious man who falls out and licks the blood off her injured knee. The man turns out to be a centuries-old vampire named Vlad Fetechou, and thanks to Naerim’s sweet blood, the pair are now connected by a visible-to-them red string. A coming-of-age romance story with a supernatural twist, Bloody Sweet has found its way into readers’ hearts and, soon, onto their bookshelves.
Yen Press has yet to announce a release date for the print run of Bloody Sweet. However, fans keen to read the vampire romance series can check it out on TappyToon, Manta or Pocket Comics.
