KFC’s Naruto A-cat-tsuki Meme Reveals What Sasuke Is Lacking

KFC’s official Spanish-language Twitter account perfectly captured the spirit of Naruto’s Itachi Uchiha in a tweet accompanied by a picture of a cat wearing the Akatsuki’s iconic cloud-logo emblazoned cloak.

Accompanying the picture of the A-cat-tsuki with a KFC bucket is the caption “Te falta salsa, Sasuke.” According to Google Translate, the caption means, “You lack sauce, Sasuke.” The caption references a scene from Naruto in which Itachi pins Sasuke against a wall, telling him, “You are weak. Why are you weak? Because you lack hatred.”

The scene between Itachi and Sasuke became a well-circulated meme roughly three years ago, with fans editing everything from moe anime girls to celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay grabbing Sasuke by the neck. Gordon Ramsay’s Sasuke meme is particularly popular, with the Hell’s Kitchen chef slamming the ninja for lacking seasoning. While that caption could have worked in context for the global chicken chain restaurant, their choice of wording remained perfectly on brand.

KFC Loves Anime Memes

This meme isn’t the first time KFC’s Spanish-language Twitter posted an epic anime-themed tweet. Back in September, the corporate account shared a picture of Evangelion’s Asuka Langley Sōryu hanging out with Colonel Sanders with the caption “Feliz jueves.” The caption referenced a meme popular in Latin America, in which a little girl wearing a red dress runs to the viewer surrounded by text that reads, “Vengo Corriendo Que Quiero ser La Primera Persona En Desearte un Feliz Jueves!!!” or “I’m running over because I want to be the first person to wish you a Happy Thursday!!!” Evangelion fans were quick to identify the little girl as Asuka from one of the darker moments in the series, in which she finds her mother dead from suicide. The stark difference between the heaviness of the scene coupled with the cheery greeting led to the meme not only going viral, but also spawning several different iterations.

Both memes posted by KFC are well-known and a hit within the anime community, so it should be no surprise that fans quickly responded to the posts. One fan replied to the tweet with a picture of an adorable pup wearing the Akatsuki’s cloak, declaring the cat and dog as “twins.”

Sasuke currently features in a spinoff manga based on a light novel of the same name. Despite receiving credit for the series, Naruto’s creator Masashi Kishimoto had no direct involvement. Naruto: Sasuke’s Story – The Uchiha and the Heavenly Stardust is available to read on the VIZ Manga app.
