Chainsaw Chuu: K-Pop Fans Imagine Kim Jiwoo as Chainsaw Man Amid LOONA Controversy

Fans have taken creative measures to show exactly how they feel about BlockBerry Creative’s removal of K-Pop idol Chuu from her group LOONA by turning her into the titular character Chainsaw Man.

One fan (bentangart) transformed the former LOONA member Kim Jiwoo, who performs under the stage name Chuu, into Chainsaw Chuu on Twitter. In the fan art, Chuu, wearing a yellow plaid blazer and matching skirt with a big red bow pinned to her hair, stands on top of a destroyed building. The blood from her chainsaws drips down, covering the wreckage with blood. Inscribed at the bottom-most piece of destruction are the letters “BB” — the acronym for BlockBerry Creative.

A Fan-Made K-Pop & Anime Crossover

In Tatsuki Fujimoto’s original work, the sound of Chainsaw Man revving up his chainsaws is enough to shoot fear into both humans’ and Devils’ hearts, thus making this crossover delightful for LOONA and K-Pop fans alike. Numerous fans showered the fan art with compliments. One fan edited a panel from Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man manga to have Makima now say BlockBerry Creative (BBC) is one of the “many things in this world that humanity would be happier without.” The fan art has over 16,000 retweets and over 61,000 likes.

BlockBerry Creative released a statement announcing that they would remove Chuu from the 12-member girl group LOONA on Nov. 25. The agency claimed that Chuu had allegedly used “violent language and misuse of power toward our staff.” As a result, the company “decided to take responsibility for this and remove Chuu from LOONA.” In a translation by Soompi, BlockBerry Creative apologized to LOONA fans, continuing in the statement to say, “The LOONA members did not work only for their individual gains, and they know what fans have given them to bring them to this point, so they did not do anything to cause trouble to the team. They will make it to the end and give back for the love from everyone who supports LOONA.”

Chuu Has Many Supporters

Chuu’s removal from LOONA sparked controversy, given how there were reports that she was planning on starting her own company with her mother called Chuu Co. Ltd. and had filed a provisional injunction against BlockBerry Creative to suspend her exclusive contract last year. The singer had also previously opened up about not receiving any income last year, resulting in stress and poor eating habits. Fans, staff and other artists have stepped up to defend Chuu, including Kim Hyunjin, a member of LOONA. Webcomic artist Wondung posted on his Instagram, calling BlockBerry Creative’s allegations “complete nonsense.” He claimed, “The Chuu I saw is not the kind of person who would do that at all.”

As of this article’s publication, Chuu has not released a statement to respond to the power abuse allegations nor her removal from the group.
