Satoru Gojo claimed he could beat Sukuna back in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 3, and now, five years later, readers will finally see if he was right.
According to a sneak preview of Chapter 225, Gojo and Sukuna’s confrontation is likely to grow into what the series refers to as a “overwhelming battle.” While the two sorcerers have been at odds since Chapter 223, they’ve only been getting started, causing more collateral damage to the surrounding city than to each other. The upcoming release appears to be aiming to amp things up while also addressing the fates of the other sorcerers, whom readers have seen little of since Gojo and Sukuna’s conflict began. The promo only offered the ominous phrase “And the other sorcerers are…!?” suggesting we may be in for several surprises in one chapter.
Jujutsu Kaisen Sets Expectations High
Since Gojo was released from the prison realm in Chapter 221, fans have speculated on the fate of their epic confrontation. Given the series’ penchant for teasing plot twists in plain sight, details like Gojo’s choice of attire before the fight – a tight black t-shirt and flowing pants, similar to Toji Fushiguro’s attire before he was killed in battle with Gojo – have been highlighted as potential foreshadowing of his demise. Others have questioned Gojo’s ability to slay Sukuna while the King of Curses is inside Megumi Fushiguro’s body, and some have suggested that his devotion to his pupils may ultimately prove his undoing. Whatever happens, Chapter 225 will have a memorable showdown for readers.
While Jujustu Kaisen’s manga readers have plenty to be excited about, so do its anime viewers, with Season 2 on the horizon. The adaptation from studio MAPPA released a new trailer late last month, revealing its new opening theme song “Ao no Sumika,” by Tatsuya Kitani. The trailer also teased footage of the aforementioned battle between Gojo and Toji Fushiguro, as Season 2 will adapt the manga’s “Gojo’s Past” arc in addition to the highly anticipated “Shibuya Incident” arc.
Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen is set to premiere July 6 on Crunchyroll. The upcoming Chapter 225 of the manga will be available June 12 from North American publisher MangaMonster.
