Jujutsu Kaisen Cosplayers Bring the Anime’s End Credits to Life

Jujutsu Kaisen’s first ending theme — “Lost in Paradise” by ALI — has inspired a trio of cool street-style cosplays.

Uploaded on Reddit, the image shows Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki wearing more laid-back attire than their usual school uniforms and recreating some of the dance moves seen in the anime’s end credits. Notably, the animation won Best Ending Sequence at Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2021; the series also won Anime of the Year and Best Antagonist that year.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Publication History

First appearing in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in March 2018, Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen tells the story of protagonist Yuji Itadori, an athletically-gifted high schooler who finds himself recruited by a group of Jujutsu Sorcerers after he eats one of the decayed fingers of Ryomen Sukuna, the undisputed King of Curses. Alongside Hiro Mashima’s Fairy Tail and Takeshi Konomi’s The Prince of Tennis, the series stands as one of the best-selling manga in history, with over 70 million copies sold globally.

The adaptation by studio MAPPA (Attack on Titan: The Final Season) premiered its first season back in 2020, going on to become one of the most popular and well-received anime shows of that year. It stars Junya Enoki (Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon) as Itadori, Yuma Uchida (The Executioner and Her Way of Life) as Megumi Fushiguro and Asami Seto (The Eminence in Shadow) as Nobara Kugisaki.

The highly anticipated second season of Jujutsu Kaisen will debut as part of the summer 2023 lineup, and its first trailer teases a story filled with a mixture of comedy and brutal action. Most notably, it glimpses the epic and deadly showdown between the most powerful sorcerer Satoru Gojo and Megumi’s father, Toji Fushiguro. The latest trailer features the show’s new opening song — “Ao no Sumika” by Tatsuya Kitani.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Dedicated Fan Following

The massive successes of both Akutami’s manga and MAPPA’s anime series originate from Jujutsu Kaisen’s passionate and large fan following. Members of the fandom demonstrate their love and appreciation for the story by creating their own content, especially cosplay. Beyond the “Lost in Paradise”-inspired cosplay, other recent examples include two different interpretations of Gojo; one gives the Six Eyes user a feminine makeover and long, flowing hair, while the other is so accurate it looks like the Jujutsu High teacher used his incredible power to transport himself into our reality.

The Jujutsu Kaisen anime is available to stream on Crunchyroll, and the manga is distributed in North America by VIZ Media.
